The NFL has had two games delayed today thanks to lightning. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were hosting the New Orleans Saints in the first game delayed, a part of the late afternoon slate of games. Tonight's Sunday Night Football game with the San Francisco 49ers visiting the Seattle Seahawks has also been hit by the lightning delay.
The game had 3:13 left in the first quarter when the game was suspended due to lightning in the area. The original delay was expected to last about 20 minutes, but the lightning in the area has not abated. The game is expected to continue at 10:05pm ET.
This is actually the second delay of the season already for Sunday Night Football as well. The Thursday Night opener, which is a Sunday Night Football broadcast, was delayed before kickoff due to lightning in Denver as the Broncos hosted the Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens.
[UPDATE 10:05pm ET:] The teams have returned to the field and the game has resumed.
