Saints vs Dolphins: 5 Miami players to watch on offense

It all comes down to tonight. Who makes the Miami Dolphins' 53 man roster, and a who misses it? With tonight's final preseason game just two days before the final roster cuts, performances against the New Orleans Saints tonight absolutely matter. However, it's not the performances of the starters, but rather the performances of guys further down the depth chart.

Let's take a look at the five players from Miami's offense we should watch tonight.

1. Marvin McNutt, wide receiver - Claimed off of waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier this summer, McNutt has been firmly entrenched on the roster bubble every since. He has made some good plays for the Dolphins this preseason, but he has also had some bad drops. McNutt's biggest issue is consistency. A good performance tonight could push him to the good side of the cut line, and make Miami keep more wide receivers in 2013.


2. Kyle Miller, tight end - The Dolphins are probably looking to keep as many tight ends as possible following the loss of Dustin Keller. That means Charles Clay, Dion Sims, and Michael Egnew are all near locks for the roster. It's Miller that still has a question mark next to his name. Does he make the roster? Tonight's performance could go a long way to making that decision.


3. Will Yeatman, offensive tackle - Everything seems to say Yeatman is going to make the roster, most likely as the primary backup to Jonathan Martin. But, is he ready to play after making the conversion from tight end to tackle beginning last year? Miami could be considering a waiver wire search for a backup tackle if they feel Yeatman is not ready, so his performance tonight could be critical to his future as an NFL player.


4. Jonas Gray, running back - It almost seems a foregone conclusion at this point that the Dolphins will release Gray. Earlier this season, all the talk was how special Gray looked coming back from an entire season on Injured Reserve. Could he reclaim a roster spot with a good performance tonight? It wouldn't hurt.


5. Pat Devlin, quarterback - Even faster than the roster spot seemed to disappear from Gray, Devlin seemed to go from a roster lock to a cut player in the span of just a few days. He does still have practice squad eligibility, so that could be part of why the Dolphins may consider cutting him. But, he has been a favorite for head coach Joe Philbin for the past year, and he has a big upside, especially if Matt Moore is either released after the season or traded during the year. Miami could use his roster spot to keep someone who has shown more potential this preseason, but exposing him to poachers could be dangerous. How will Devlin look tonight, and will it be enough to earn him one of the 53 slots?
