As fans head to the gates at Sun Life Stadium for the first time in 2013, a Miami Dolphins home game will not be the only thing waiting for them. Security will be enforcing the NFL's new bag policy, prohibiting any non-clear bag from entering the stadium.
Women will be able to keep a hand sized, clutch style purse.
According to the NFL's policy, bags must be clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC, and cannot exceed 12" by 6" by 12". One gallon sized freezer bags will be allowed as well. Medically necessary items will be allowed into the stadium, but will have to be inspected. Each stadium will only allow one gate for medically required items to be inspected; for the Dolphins, it will be at Gate E.
Tailgating will not be impacted by the new rules.
The Dolphins have said they will send officials outside the stadium prior to the game to remind people of the new policy. If someone brings an unapproved bag to the gate, there will be a place to check the bag for the duration of the game.
Bags that are explicitly listed as not meeting the standard include purses larger than a clutch, coolers, briefcases, backpacks, fanny packs, cinch bags, luggage, seat cushions, computer bags, and camera bags.
The team is providing one approved bag to season ticket holders (1 per two seats). They will also be selling approved bags at the team store at Sun Life Stadium.
