The Miami Dolphins have signed free agent defensive end Antwan Applewhite. The veteran defensive end has appeared in 48 games over the past six seasons, spending 2007-2010 with the San Diego Chargers and 2011-2012 with the Carolina Panthers.
He only appeared in five games last season due to injuries.
Applewhite has 87 tackles in his career, along with 6.5 sacks, three passes defensed, four forced fumbles, and a safety. He has played both defensive end in a 4-3 scheme, as well as outside linebacker in a 3-4.
The move fills the Dolphins' roster have they created a vacancy with the release of veteran kicker Dan Carpenter Wednesday. Applewhite was in practice on Thursday.
