Dolphins' Reshad Jones: "I can only get better"

Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones had a break out 2012 campaign. Now, in the 2013 NFL season, Jones looks to improve on that performance.

In 2012, Miami Dolphins safety Reshad Jones established himself among the NFL's best safeties. While his performance failed to yield him a Pro Bowl nod, it ranked him as the third best safety in the league, according to Pro Football reference. Jones, however, does not see 2012 as his ceiling. Rather, it's a stepping stone to even better things.

"I can only get better," Jones recently told the Dolphins' radio show. "I got the ball rolling in the right direction and I just told myself I want to be recognized as one of the premiere safeties in this league. I think last year I went out and showed that to the world and I just want to keep it going."

Jones started all 16 games in 2013, the first time he has been the starter for the entire season. He recorded a team high 4 interceptions last season, with one sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and 95 tackles.

But, it's not the highlight play that Jones is worried about. "Consistency is the key, especially from a defensive back position," he explained. "You're going to get beat some times, you're going to win a couple of battles. But, being consistent, that's what separates the good from the great."

Jones comes into the 2013 season as one of the leaders on a defense that saw Sean Smith, Karlos Dansby, and Kevin Burnett all leave. That does not seem to worry the fourth year veteran, however. "I want to be the best guy on the field," Jones told Jesse Agler. "I want to let my team know, and the world know, I'm one of the better safeties in this league, and I think I kind of demonstrated that last year."

"I think I'm ready to take off."

The Dolphins are ready for him to take off as well.
