Dolphins Roster Breakdown: Joe Hastings

Over the course of the offseason, we will take an in-depth look at every member of the Miami Dolphins' roster. All 90 players will be spotlighted, with the goal being to complete the look before the team's first preseason game (31 days from today). Today, we look at wide receiver Joe Hastings.

We are currently making our way through the Miami Dolphins' 90-man offseason roster, breaking down last season for each player, as well as what could happen this year. Today, we continue today with a look at wide receiver Joe Hastings.

2012 Review:

Hastings has one appearance in his NFL career, a game in 2011 with the San Francisco 49ers. The majority of that 2011 season, however, saw Hastings on the 49ers practice squad. In 2012, he returned with the 49ers, but was cut when an injury limited his performance in the preseason. He then joined the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the UFL, until that league suspended operations.

He again signed with the 49ers for this season, but was released at the start of June. Invited to the Dolphins' minicamp as a tryout player, Hastings impressed the team enough to be signed to the 90-man roster.

Why he could improve in 2013:

There's not a lot of basis for measuring an improvement or regression for Hastings. He's only had the one appearance in the NFL, and has not made a reception.

Why he could regress in 2013:

Just like the improvement, there's not a lot to know one way or the other what will happen with the former Wasburn University player.

Odds he will make the 53-man roster:

Nearly impossible for Hastings to make the roster. He still has practice squad eligibility, so that is possible. Either way, at this point, he is simply a 6'0", 190 pound camp body.
