Over the course of the offseason, we will take an in-depth look at every member of the Miami Dolphins' roster. All 90 players will be spotlighted, with the goal being to complete the look before the team's first preseason game (10 days from today). Today, we look at guard Brian Thomas.

We are currently making our way through the Miami Dolphins' 90-man offseason roster, breaking down last season for each player, as well as what could happen this year. Today, we continue today with a look at guard Brian Thomas.

2012 Review:

The 2012 season could be described as a disappointment for Thomas. Unfortunately, disappointment might be the best way to describe his transfer to Texas Tech after three years at Texas A&M. Thomas had spent the 2010 and 2011 seasons as a starter for the Aggies, before getting suspended for violating team rules just prior to the 2011 Meineke Car Care Bowl of Texas.

Thomas graduated that spring, then transferred to Tech, using the graduate school transfer option to retain his eligibility for the 2012 season. However, he ended up leaving the team in August after showing up overweight and out of shape. Then Texas Tech head coach Tommy Tuberville explained, ""He's got too many physical issues. He was second team and went down to third team. Physically, he couldn't make it through a complete practice."

After missing the entire season, Thomas signed as an undrafted free agent with the Dolphins.

Why he could improve in 2013:

Thomas' 2013 has to be better than his 2012, right? He's already practicing with the Dolphins, which is more than what was happening with Texas Tech, so maybe he's already improved. Thomas has to hope that linking back up with his former Texas A&M coach in Miami offensive coordinator Mike Sherman will be able to get him back into playing shape.

Why he could regress in 2013:

Out of football for a year for being overweight and out of shape is not a good start to an NFL career. If he cannot stay disciplined, he will regress. From where he is, a regression means out of football altogether.

Odds he will make the 53-man roster:

The definition of a developmental project, Thomas is probably in the 87-90th man on the roster area right now. That's going to make it nearly impossible to claim a roster spot. He has a chance at the practice squad, especially if Sherman vouches for him, but don't expect to see him on the main roster come opening night.
