Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez has formally been charged with murder today. He was arrested earlier this morning, but charges were not announced at that time. With his arraignment earlier today, it is now known that Hernandez will face first-degree murder charges for allegedly killing 27-year-old Odin Lloyd.
Hernandez has been at the center of the investigation since Lloyd's body was discovered in an industrial park near the Hernandez home last week. Previously, it had been reported that an arrest warrant for Hernandez was prepared on obstruction of justice charges, but that warrant was never executed.
This morning, police arrested Hernandez at his home, leading him away in handcuffs. Two hours later, it was announced via Twitter that the Patriots had released the tight end.
Hernandez was also charged with five gun-related charges. Hernandez entered a not-guilty plea. The court ordered him held without bail.
