Just over a week ago, the body of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd was found in a Boston area industrial park. He had been killed by "multiple" gun shots, including at least one in the back of the head. In the hours after the discovery of his body by a jogger, the investigation turned to New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.
Hernandez had been seen with Lloyd just hours prior to his death, spending Sunday night into Monday morning together at a bar. The two, with two additional men, reportedly left the bar together, but, at least according to reports, only three men arrived at Hernandez' home.
Other ties between the two men also appeared, as Hernandez' girlfriend is the sister of Lloyd's girlfriend and the car Lloyd was said to be using was rented in Hernandez' name.
As police began searching the home of the tight end, it was discovered, according to multiple media and police reports, that the security system, including video surveillance, in the home had been destroyed, and Hernandez' phone was turned over to police in pieces after being smashed.
With rumors of a prepared, but not executed, arrest warrant, multiple searches of the house, and more and more speculation, Michael Fee of Boston law firm Ropes and Gray, who are representing Hernandez, issued a statement Monday night:
"Over the past week, our client, Aaron Hernandez, has been the subject of a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation, and false reports in the media. These include the repeated publication of a supposedly confirmed report that an arrest warrant had been issued for Aaron, a report that was exposed as untrue. None of these false reports come from official sources and we appreciate the professionalism and restraint shown by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office to date with regard to its public statements while its investigation is underway. Out of respect for that ongoing investigation, we will continue to refrain from commenting on its substance."
Also on Monday, police reportedly conducted a search of a stream near the home, but did not find any evidence.
