Sometime by the end of the month, free agent fullback Vonta Leach is expected to make a decision on where he will spend the 2013 season. While multiple teams are thought to be involved in the chase for Leach, the Miami Dolphins and Houston Texans have been the most identified possibilities. Over the weekend, however, another team appears to have entered the fray.
Leach was expected to make around $3 million this season from the Baltimore Ravens. He was released when the team offered him a $2 million restructured base salary, with several incentives, only to see Leach turn it down. Now, according to The Baltimore Sun, the Ravens could be trying to bring back Leach.
The New York Giants are also thought to be aggressively pursuing Leach, including upping their offer to him, looking to have Leach as a replacement for incumbent fullback Henry Hynoski, who injured his knee during OTAs.
The Dolphins had hoped for a decision from Leach by the weekend, but Leach had said it would probably take another week before he made a decision. Leach's agent has stated that the Texans would be the three time Pro Bowler's top choice, returning to the team with whom he spent five years. However, reports have said Leach finds the Dolphins an interesting possibility, and he could be leaning toward joining Miami.
The Dolphins, with around $17 million in salary cap space, have the most room to sign Leach.
Now, with the Ravens back in play, however, there's no telling who might finally end up with the fullback. Hopefully, we will have a final answer sometime this week.
