If you could redesign the NFL Playoffs, what would you do?

We all have critiques about every part of the NFL. We all want a rule changed, or a policy altered. Well, today, you can redesign the NFL Playoffs. What do you do?

This offseason, one of the major rules we all hated came to an end, with the "Tuck Rule" being thrown out by the NFL owners. But, that does not mean there are not other things that could be changed. Today, we take a look at the Playoffs. If you could redesign the NFL Playoff system, what would you change?

For me, I would probably make a simple change, which could have an impact on division winners. I would add a rule that a team much be at least a .500 team to qualify for the playoffs. This would not really impact the playoffs very often, since only once has a non-.500 team made it into the postseason. But, either way, the Seattle Seahawks making the playoffs with a 7-9 record in the 2010-2011, just never felt right. I would give the missing playoff spot to the best record to not qualify, essentially adding a third wildcard team.

Other than that, I am happy with the six team format. Going to an eight team format feels like too much - you are now putting half the league into the playoffs every season. You also end up needing two bye weeks for the top two teams in each conference, which would move from rest to rust for the division winners.

I like the NFL playoffs. I would just make sure it's for winning (or at least non-losing) teams.

Now, it's up to you. What would you change? Would you make it a home-and-home series for each round, rather than a one game contest? Could you see a way to expand the number of teams in the tournament? Would you get rid of the wildcard?

It's up to you. How would you redesign the NFL playoffs?
