The 2013 NFL rookie salary poll numbers have been set. Each year, after the NFL Draft is complete, the league assigns a Year 1 salary cap for each team. They also set a minimum amount the team must spend. Those dollars are then used to sign the team's draft picks.
For the Miami Dolphins, the rookie pool is a league high $7,839,986, with a minimum of $5,200,912.
While drafted rookies will begin signing with their respective teams shortly (the Chicago Bears have already signed four of their six picks, and the Baltimore Ravens have signed six of their 10), don't expect any movement from the Dolphins for a while. Miami currently has $10,467,001 under the salary cap. A portion (maybe a large portion) of that money will likely be used by the team in signing an offensive tackle, as well as any other free agent move the team may consider.
On June 1, the team will gain around $9,390,000. The Dolphins released Karlos Dansby and Kevin Burnett in March, but designated them as June 1 cuts. The move means the team carries their full salary on the roster until June 1, despite them being free to sign with other teams, when they will only be responsible for the dead money in their contracts. That $9.4 million will likely be where the Dolphins will get the $7.8 million needed for the rookies.
