Miami Dolphins Updated Depth Chart

Jeff Ireland has used free agency and the draft to his advantage by totally replenishing this Miami Dolphins team with talent. While it’s inevitable that the Dolphins will surely add a few more players before the regular season starts, lets take a quick look at the updated depth chart.

Al Bello

The key to becoming a winning franchise is competition. Depth was a problem last year, but the Dolphins now find themselves in a situation where they have plenty of players fighting for their places, following free agency and the draft. Listed below are 71 names on the depth chart. This list does not include undrafted free agents.

OFFENSE (33 players)

QB: Ryan Tannehill, Matt Moore, Pat Devlin

WR: Mike Wallace, Armon Binns, Brian Tyms

RB: Lamar Miller, Daniel Thomas, Mike Gillislee, Marcus Thigpen, Jonas Gray.

FB: Jorvorskie Lane

LT: Jonathan Martin, Andrew McDonald

LG: Richie Incognito, Dallas Thomas, Chandler Burden

C: Mike Pouncey, Josh Samuda

RG: John Jerry, Lance Louis

RT: Nate Garner, Will Yeatman, Jeff Adams

TE: Dustin Keller, Dion Sims, Charles Clay, Michael Egnew, Kyle Miller

WR: Brian Hartline, Brandon Gibson, Jeff Fuller, Rishard Matthews

It seems that every single position on offense appears to be set, apart from tackle. There is no doubt that the team will add a free agent tackle. Expect that to take place sooner, rather than later. At a stretch, I would have also liked the team to add a wide receiver in the later rounds of the draft to compete with Rischard Matthews for that 4th receiver spot.

DEFENSE (33 players)

DE: Cameron Wake, Olivier Vernon

DT: Randy Starks, Vaughn Martin, Chas Alecxih

DT: Paul Soliai, Kheeston Randall

DE: Jared Odrick, Dion Jordan, Derrick Shelby

WLB: Philip Wheeler, Josh Kaddu, Jelani Jenkins

MLB: Dannell Ellerbe, Austin Spitler

SLB: Koa Misi, Jason Trusnik, Jonathan Freeny, Lee Robinson

CB: Brent Grimes, Jamar Taylor, Will Davis, De'Andre Presley, Julian Posey

CB: Richard Marshall, Nolan Carroll, Dimitri Patterson, R.J. Stanford, Jimmy Wilson, Don Jones

S: Reshad Jones, Kelcie McCray

S: Chris Clemons

It's an absolute understatement to suggest that the defensive line is well stocked. It's definitely the position where the team has the most depth in terms of both quantity AND quality. Linebacker has also been significantly improved this offseason. Jelani Jenkins is a good addition and will be pushing hard for playing time, while Philip Wheeler and Dannell Ellerbe are quality additions to the team. The competition at corner will be an interesting one to watch during training camp. Expect one of Richard Marshall and Dimitri Patterson to get cut.

SPECIALISTS (5 players)

K: Caleb Sturgis, Dan Carpenter

P: Brandon Fields

LS: John Denney, Patrick Scales

KR: Marcus Thigpen

PR: Marcus Thigpen

Caleb Sturgis was the best kicker in this year's draft and comes highly recommended. Dan Carpenter better come to camp ready for a battle, or he'll be gone.

Concluding Thoughts

Many veterans will be looking over their shoulders after the recent additions that the Dolphins have made. Every year we witness surprise roster cuts, and I anticipate the same thing could very well happen again this year. While the roster isn't perfect, it's in much better shape than it has been in recent years.
