The big news this week has been the interest that the Dolphins have in Brandon Albert. The latest rumor suggests that Jeff Ireland could be willing to give up a 2nd round pick for the left tackle.
The move would make sense. While the team has been active in free agency, the Dolphins have lost both Jake Long and Sean Smith. It's imperative that Joe Philbin and Mike Sherman find ways to protect Ryan Tannehill.
As for corner, sure, the team added Brent Grimes. However, both Grimes and Richard Marshall have just come off injury-ravaged seasons. Does Ireland want to roll the dice on them being match fit, or even returning to form, for the whole season? This is where Dee Milliner comes in.
Dee Milliner is the top corner in the draft. Many believe he isn't an elite prospect, and therefore suggest he's not worth trading up for. Others have the viewpoint that he is hands-down the best corner prospect in this draft class by a country mile. Personally, I must admit that he would be a good fit for our defense.
The interesting part is that, according to CBS Draft analyst Jason La Canfora, Ireland could very well be targeting Milliner next week. His thinking is that the top three prospects at tackle will be long gone before the Dolphins reach the clock at number twelve. Luke Joeckel is expected to go first overall, Eric Fisher is set to go in the top five, and Lane Johnson is rising fast. La Canfora even suggests that DJ Fluker could be selected before Miami picks.
That could pave the way for Milliner to fall all the way to the Dolphins. Apparently the team is very high on the player, and there's no doubt in my mind that he fits what the team wants from their corners very well.
On a side note, the team are also reportedly interested in Tavon Austin. He is another player that could make an instant impact on the team. Having said this, remember that this is the crazy part of the season where GM's throw out smokescreen after smokescreen to the media in order disguise their intentions.
So, would you be happy with Dee Milliner at number twelve? If not, how about Tavon Austin? Lets hear your thoughts.
