The Oakland Raiders signed former Miami Dolphins linebacker Kevin Burnett today. Burnett, who was the top rated linebacker available according to Pro Football Focus, was released by the Dolphins after Miami signed former Raiders linebacker Philip Wheeler.
The Burnett and Wheeler flip mirrors a previous flip the Dolphins and Raiders did through free agency a few years ago. Miami signed Oakland's center, Jake Grove, to a big money contract, and released Samson Satele. The Raiders then grabbed Satele. Hopefully this one goes better for the Dolphins, as Satele is still in the league while the Grove contract was a failure for Miami, and he is now out of the league.
Burnett joins his brother, Kaelin, who is a second year linebacker with the Raiders.
Kevin started all 16 games for the Dolphins last year, and all 32 in his two years in Miami. He had 109 tackles and 2.5 sacks in 2012, along with 103 tackles, 2.5 sacks, one interception, and one tackle in 2011.
