Mike Pouncey illness to keep him from Chargers game

The Miami Dolphins' offensive line is in shambles this season, and it's taking another big hit today. According to an ESPN report, center Mike Pouncey will not be playing today due to the illness that kept him out of practice on Friday.

An offensive line that is already missing two starters, Miami Dolphins tackle Jonathan Martin and guard Richie Incognito, now appears set to play the San Diego Chargers without a third starter.  Center Mike Pouncey, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter on SportsCenter this morning, will not be able to play this afternoon, thanks to the illness that kept him out of Friday's practice.

Reports on Friday said Pouncey was missing practice for a "minor medical issue" and that he would be ready to play on Sunday.  This morning, NFL Network's Jeff Darlington reported that Pouncey actually ended up in the hospital on Friday, fighting issues with his kidney and gallbladder.  Even as of that report from Darling, which was made at 9am ET this morning, Pouncey was expected to play.

How Miami retools their decimated offensive line for today's game will be interesting to see.  Nate Garner has been serving as the primary backup to Pouncey this season, but moved into the starting lineup to replace Incognito at left guard.  The team promoted center Sam Brenner off the practice squad yesterday, so it's possible he could move into Pouncey's position.  If the team elects to move Garner to center, they could use reserve guards Dallas Thomas or Danny Watkins for the first time this season.

The Dolphins kickoff against the Chargers at 4:05pm ET today.
