After an ugly Monday Night Football game last night - a game so ugly, Scott Van Pelt opened SportsCenter making reference to the bad game ESPN had just finished airing - the NFL's Week 7 has come to an end. Now, we start to move on to Week 8, starting with our weekly NFL Power Rankings.
As always, feel free to discuss my rankings in the comments and tell me who is too high or too low.
Team | LW | Change | Week 5 Result | Remarks | |
1 |
Chiefs
(7-0) |
2 | +1 | W, 17-16 vs Houston | It is a little surprising that Kansas City let it be this close in Arrowhead. But, they are the only team with a 0 in the loss column, and worthy of the top spot. |
2 |
Seahawks
(6-1) |
3 | +1 | W, 34-22 at Arizona | Not exactly sure a win over Arizona should be enough to bounce them over Denver, but it did. |
3 | ![]() Broncos
(6-1) |
1 | -2 | L, 39-33 at Indianapolis | If Denver and Indy meet up in the playoffs, it should be an amazing game. |
4 |
Packers
(4-2) |
4 | --- | W, 31-13 vs Cleveland | Jermichael Finley's injury looked ugly. Apparently, it's not as bad as was feared. |
5 |
Colts
(5-2) |
9 | +4 | W, 39-33 vs Denver | Andrew Luck beat his predecessor on a night when Indy thanked Peyton Manning. That had to feel good. |
6 |
Saints
(5-1) |
6 | --- | BYE | New Orleans having the bye week stacked up the teams right behind them on the rankings. Some of them should have gained, but couldn't because New Orleans didn't move. |
7 |
49ers
(5-2) |
7 | --- | W, 31-17 at Tennessee | Win at Tennessee, get on the plane and head for London. |
8 |
Bengals
(5-2) |
8 | --- | W, 27-24 at Detroit | Impressive 135.9 passer rating day for Andy Dalton, especially on a day where the Bengals had nearly no running game. |
9 |
Patriots
(5-2) |
5 | -4 | L, 30-27 (OT) at New York Jets | Here's to hoping that New England is at the start of, at least, a 2 game losing streak. |
10 |
Bears
(4-3) |
10 | --- | L, 45-41 at Washington |
Jay Cutler tore his groin muscle. I'll give you a second to stop wincing. |
11 |
Falcons
(2-4) |
15 | +4 | W, 31-23 vs Tampa Bay | Who needs Julio Jones and Roddy White? Not Atlanta. At least when they play Tampa Bay. |
12 |
Lions
(4-3) |
11 | -1 | L, 27-24 vs Cincinnati | My fantasy team could have used a third TD from Calvin Johnson. Detroit could have as well. |
13 |
Ravens
(3-4) |
12 | -1 | L, 19-16 at Pittsburgh | Baltimore couldn't get much going during the game, but kept it close enough to lose in a heartbreaker. |
14 |
Cowboys
(4-3) |
16 | +2 | W, 17-3 at Philadelphia | You cannot possibly guess what Dallas will do each and every week, but they are leading the NFC East, so there's that. |
15 |
Jets
(4-3) |
21 | +6 | W, 30-27 (OT) vs New England | The New England losing is a good thing, but it's hard to be happy with it's New York winning. |
16 |
Chargers
(4-3) |
19 | +3 | W, 24-6 at Jacksonville | Apparently San Diego is immune from the west coast to east coast jet lag issue. |
17 |
Dolphins
(3-3) |
13 | -4 | L, 23-21 vs Buffalo | What the....???? |
18 |
Browns
(3-4) |
14 | -4 | L, 31-13 at Green Bay | Cleveland's offense did not bother to show up against the Green Bay blue shirts with yellow circles. |
19 |
Eagles
(3-4) |
17 | -2 | L, 17-3 vs Dallas | Had a shot to claim the division lead against Dallas, but couldn't do it with Matt Barkley. |
20 |
Panthers
(3-3) |
23 | +3 | W, 30-15 vs St. Louis | Cam Newton went 15 for 17, and he played the entire game. Carolina has redefined his role in their offense, and it's working. |
21 |
Bills
(3-4) |
26 | +5 | W, 23-21 at Miami | No, seriously, WTH...??? |
22 |
Titans
(3-4) |
18 | -4 | L, 31-13 vs San Francisco | Rest in peace, Bud Adams and Bum Phillips. |
23 |
Steelers
(2-4) |
27 | +4 | W, 19-16 vs Baltimore | Pittsburgh is trying to quietly work their way back into the division. |
24 |
Rams
(3-4) |
20 | -4 | L, 30-15 at Carolina | Sam Bradford tore his ACL. That pretty much tells you everything you need to know. |
25 |
Raiders
(2-4) |
25 | --- | BYE | Holding steady thanks to the bye week. |
26 |
Redskins
(2-4) |
28 | +2 | W, 45-41 vs Chicago | A 105.2 passer rating, a 91.8 QBR, 11 runs for 84 yards, 298 passing yards. Washington found a quarterback this week in that Robert Griffin III guy. |
27 |
Texans
(2-5) |
22 | -5 | L, 17-16 at Kansas City | From Super Bowl contender to second worst record in the AFC. What a rapid fall for Houston. |
28 |
Cardinals
(3-4) |
24 | -4 | L, 34-22 vs Seattle | Carson Palmer can't throw. The offensive line can't block. And Larry Fitgerald can't run. |
29 |
Giants
(1-6) |
32 | +3 | W, 23-7 vs Minnesota | New York didn't win a game until Week 7 - and are only three games out of the division lead. |
30 |
Vikings
(1-5) |
29 | -1 | L, 23-7 at New York Giants | Starting Josh Freeman so soon after signing him definitely did not look like the right decision on Monday night. |
31 |
Jaguars
(0-7) |
30 | -1 | L, 24-6 vs San Diego | Chad Henne threw for over 300 yards, with an 80.6 passer rating, and Jacksonville only managed two field goals. Yep. That sounds about right. |
32 |
Buccaneers
(0-6) |
31 | -1 | L, 31-23 at Atlanta | At least Josh Freeman looked really bad in Minnesota. |
