Despite all his speed, wide receiver Clyde Gates could not harness it into precise route running or an ability to catch the ball. Now, he's a former member of the Miami Dolphins.

The NFL deadline for every team to have their roster at 53-players is tonight at 9pm Eastern. The Miami Dolphins have started the blood shedding this morning. We will keep up with all the roster moves as best we can, trying to track the changes to the Dolphins' roster as they happen.

The Dolphins have to release 21 players today, going from 74 players down to 53. They traded backup center Ryan Cook to the Dallas Cowboys late last night, clearing one roster spot. The team got a seventh round draft pick in return.

This morning, the team has released wide receivers B.J. Cunningham, Clyde Gates, and Roberto Wallace. They have also released defensive ends Jamaal Westerman and Ryan Baker, linebackers Cameron Collns and Gary Guyton, and cornerback Vincent Agnew.

The name that has surpised me the most so far was Guyton. He had served as the primary backup for Karlos Dansby this preseason, starting the last two games while Dansby was out with an injury.

The Dolphins are also expected to be busy acquiring of players as well. They worked out three receivers and three cornerbacks yesterday, though no one was signed as of last night.
