The Miami Dolphins have been in a constant battle with the injury bug this preseason, and it seems to be a battle they are slowly losing right now. From quarterbacks having surgery to linemen battling illness, the Dolphins seem to have someone new missing practice every day. Here's a quick look at some of the injuries with which the Dolphins are currently dealing.
David Garrard, QB - Knee - Garrard had knee surgery on Saturday to "clean out floating things." He will miss between 2-4 weeks, and could have lost his shot at the starting job with this surgery. Depending on how his knee is progressing, Garrard is a candidate for injured reserve, especially if the NFL Player Association approves the NFL measure allowing for one player per season per team to be removed from the IR list at some point during the season. Garrard to injured reserve would free up a roster spot, allowing the Dolphins to carry three QBs and not risk losing Pat Devlin after waiving him and signing him to the practice squad.
Brian Hartline, WR - Calf - Hartline has not participated in any of the Miami training camp practices as he rehabs a calf injury. He is expected to be cleared to practice in the next 7-10 days. He has to get back on the field as quickly as possible if he want to ensure he will make the team, and to ensure he has a shot at starting. Like Garrard, if Hartline is not progressing, he could be placed on IR, using the one player removal policy if Garrard isn't, to make space to carry another wide receiver early in the year.
Karlos Dasnby, LB - Undisclosed - Dansby has not practiced the past two days. No injury has been announced.
Kevin Burnett, LB - Undisclosed - Burnett did not play in Friday's preseason opener, nor has he practiced the past two days.
Marcus Thigpen, RG - Leg - Thigpen has been running sprints along the side of the field with a compression sleeve on his lg during practice.
Ray Feinga, OL - Illness - Feinga did not play during Friday's preseason opener. He has returned to practice after battling an undisclosed illness.
Clyde Gates, WR - Leg - Gates has been slowed by a leg injury in trianing camp ,and has been limited in practices because of it. He has returned to full participation.
