The Miami Dolphins have signed third round draft pick Olivier Vernon today. Vernon is expected to compete with Jared Odrick for playing time at defensive end, playing opposite Cameron Wake.
The Dolphins report to training camp tomorrow, but have two draft picks remaining to sign. First round pick, quarterback Ryan Tannehill and third-round tight end Michael Egnew still have to come to terms with the team. Tannehill is involved in the three way quarterback competition in Miami, fighting with David Garrard and Matt Moore for the starting position. If he does not sign prior to the start of training camp, evey practice he misses adds to the difficulty facing the rookie in claiming the starter's role.
Meanwhile, Egnew should come in to the Dolphins as the second string tight end, serving more of a pass catcher than starter Anthony Fasaon. Egnew could lose playing time to sophomore h-back Charles Clay, however, if Egnew is an extended holdout for training camp.
We will update on any other signings by the Dolphins as soon as they are announced.
