When Jeff Darlington left for NFL.com, Miami Dolphins fans lost a great beat writer to follow. But, Darlington has not lost his contacts within the Dolphins organization and around Miami. Today, he shows off those Miami connections, reporting that Chad Ochocinco is legally Chad Johnson again.
According to Darlington's report, Johnson was in a Broward County courtroom this morning for an 8:45 am hearing to finalize his name change. Johnson changed his name to Ochocinco in 2008, after giving himself the nickname in 2006, a reference to his jersey number, 85. Now, Johnson is returning to his given surname, after being married earlier this month.
While the legal name change only costs $401 in court fees, the name change could have a bigger impact on Johnson's bank account. Johnson could be required to purchase any replica Dolphins jerseys Nike has already produced with the Ochocinco name on the back.
