We are going to do a three part posting on the Phinsider, beginning with this post nominating possible Miami Dolphins Breakout Players of the Year. We will then follow that with a poll post, taking all the worthwhile nominations (i.e., you can nominate John Denney - but I don't see a way for the long snapper to be the breakout player), and make a poll out of all the players. Finally, we will take a look at who wins, and is the Phinsider choice to be the breakout player of the year for the Dolphins.

The idea here is you nominate a player in the comments below, and include a write up of why you think he will be the breakout player. I will use your nomination paragraphs as the body of the next post, listing all the nominees. You can either nominate a good player who will become a great, star type player, or a player no one knows outside of Miami who will suddenly make people take notice. It's up to you.

To try to keep this a little organized, I ask that, if someone has already nominated the player you would like to nominate, just reply to their post with your explanation of why you are nominating that player. I will select the best of the write ups for each player.

I will start the nominations with my choice, Sean Smith. I really think, with Kevin Coyle, who worked magic with the Cincinnati Bengals' secondary, Smith will rebound after a poor 2011 showing. The defense is, reportedly, shifting to a more man-to-man coverage scheme, and Smith will be the beneficiary of that, being able to use his size and strength to man-handle wide receivers at the line of scrimmage. I look for Smith to be able to make the jump from a solid coverage guy who can get beat at times, to a borderline Pro Bowler, able to shutdown a wide receiver for large portions of a game.

Who do you nominate? Let us know in the comments below.
