This is one in a series of posts counting down the top 100 songs of the 70's. I will post one of these every night with the exception of Thursday, Fridays or if there is breaking Dolphins news until we reach number one. This is more or less a way for us to pass time on the site during the slow time of year. Besides the 70's were the greatest decade in music.
Tonight's song on the countdown in "I'll Take You There" by the family band known as "The Staples Singers". The song was written and produced by Al Bell, who is best known as the founder of soul/R&B label Stax Records. The lead singer for the band was Mavis Staples who many may recognize from her recent work with Jeff Tweedy of Wilco. Released in February of 1972 the song went on to spend 15 weeks on the charts and reached number one on the Hot 100 list.
