One of the most significant changes to the NFL’s new collective bargaining agreement is the rookie wage scale, a formula that essentially pre-determines a rookie’s first contract on how high he was drafted and leaves little room for negotiation. All rookie contracts are four years in length, with first-round picks receiving an option fifth years, and the money is essentially slotted, like it is in the NFL.
