With the 72nd pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Miami defensive end, Olivier Vernon.

We needed a pass rusher and we got one. I did not do much research on this guy, so I can't draw a conclusion on him untill I see him play. Listed below is his upside and downside, along with his junior season at Miami.

Keep in mind I am not a draft expert. I got most of this info from around the web.

Please read further for, Michael Egnew.

UPSIDE:
-Well Built
-Athletic enough to stand up and drop
-Solid base strength to set the edge
-Flashes an explosive take-off
-Fairly instinctive-locates the ball quickly

DOWNSIDE:
-Stiff lower body
-A bit tight-hipped and straight-linish
-Average career production
-Limited experience
-Immature
-Questionable character

Sounds a little like Vontae Davis when we drafted him in 2009.

Of Vernon, Walter Football says:

4/26/12: Vernon decided to skip his senior season, which looks like a questionable decision. He was suspended for the first six games of the 2011 season by the NCAA. In just six games, Vernon had 18 tackles with 3.5 tackles for a loss, 1.5 sacks and a forced fumble. He played well against Boston College in the season finale.

Vernon is a good athlete, and it wasn't surprising that he tested well at the Combine. Despite his good measureables, Vernon has a lack of production with off-the-field concerns to push his draft stock down.

With the 78th pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Miami Dolphins selected Missouri tight end, Michael Egnew.

Egnew has been on my radar since last year. We needed a tight end who could stretch the field and we got one. He will need to develop behind Fasano for a while before seeing some starting action.

UPSIDE:
-Natural hands catcher
-Outstanding body control, leaping ability
-Explovie athlete
-Makes difficult catches look easy
-Competes in traffic-enters the fray

DOWNSIDE:
-Gangly build
-Nonexistent in-line blocking experience
-Bery marginal core strength
-Straight-linish
-Simplified route tree-runs to spots
-Not elusive with ball

Of Vernon, Walter Football says:

4/24/12: Egnew posted better than expected measureables at the Combine. He had some nice moments at the Senior Bowl, but wasn't consistent enough to really help his stock. Through the Combine and Senior Bowl, Egnew has confirmed his grade as an early-round pick on the final day of the draft.

Egnew had a disappointing senior season. His production dropped off dramatically from 2010, and it doesn't look like he has the speed to be a receiving tight end in the NFL. Egnew had 50 receptions for 523 yards and three touchdowns this year. He had a big game against Iowa State with six receptions for 105 yards and a score. Egnew caught 12 passes for 69 yards against Baylor. Otherwise, he was quiet this season.
