Dolphins at 49ers: Miami Facing Long Odds

The Miami Dolphins head west to face the San Francisco 49ers this weekend. The only thing longer than the Dolphins' flight may be the odds they are facing against the 49ers.

The Miami Dolphins are not one of the league's top teams. That's not surprising to anyone who follows the team. They are currently trying to develop a rookie quarterback, with limited weaponry surrounding him, and now are going to be doing it without a four time Pro Bowl left tackle. With all of that going on, the team plays the San Francisco 49ers in Candlestick Park this Sunday.

Those 49ers are one of the top teams in the league, despite the loss to the St. Louis Rams last week. It really should not come as a surprise that the 49ers have opened the week as a double digit favorite over Miami. The Week 14 contest opened with the 49ers favored by ten points, with the line hovering between 10 and 10-1/2 points.

The Dolphins will have to play one of their best games this week, if they want to stay within striking distance of the 49ers. Last week, Miami killed themselves through penalties and mental mistakes. They cannot afford to have a performance like that this week.

The only other games featuring double digit point spreads are the Denver Broncos (-10-1/2) at the Oakland Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals at the Seattle Seahawks (-10).

The Dolphins at 49ers game also features a 39 point over/under.
