The Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots game next Sunday will now be played at 4:25 pm Eastern instead of the previously scheduled 1:00pm kickoff. The game was moved to coincide with the Denver Broncos at Kansas City Chiefs game, as the Broncos and Patriots look to claim the top seed in the AFC playoffs.
The league has also announced that the Green Bay Packers at Minnesota Vikings game has been moved into the late afternoon kickoff slot, while the Dallas Cowboys at Washington Redskins will conclude the NFL regular season on Sunday Night Football.
Coincidentally, the Cowboys also opened the season with the NFL Kickoff game in Week 1. Dallas played the New York Giants on Wednesday, September 5. This will also mark the second straight season that the Cowboys have played in the final Sunday Night game, having played the Giants for the NFC East title last year in the time slot.
The winner between the Cowboys and Redskins will win the NFC East title this season. The Redskins can still claim an NFC playoff berth with a loss, but will need help to do it.
The Dolphins were eliminated from the playoffs this afternoon, despite beating the Buffalo Bills 24-10. The Dolphins needed help to keep their playoff chances alive, but the Cincinnati Bengals win over the Pittsburgh Steelers this afternoon ended those chances.
