The Miami Dolphins have suffered to tough losses over the last two weeks of the NFL season. First, rookie quarterback Andrew Luck took apart the Dolphins defense with surgical precision, guiding the Indianapolis Colts to a 23-20 win. Then, this past Sunday, the Dolphins were trampled by Jake Locker and the Tennessee Titans. The team simply has not been good over the past two weeks. But, can they be ready to go this week, only having four days between the Titans loss and their game tomorrow against the Buffalo Bills?
The Dolphins have to answer the "Call of Duty" this week, and show up against a Bills team who currently rank 21st against the pass and 32nd in the league against the run. Miami has a lot of questions to answer, but there are two that stand out above the rest. Two questions that have to be answered if the Dolphins are going to have success this week, and the rest of the year.
The first question Miami has to answer is about the running game. The team seems to have moved on from starting running back Reggie Bush over the past three weeks, with Daniel Thomas playing more snaps in each of those games as Bush. Bush was benched for the final six possessions of the first half against the Titans. If Miami is going to answer the call this week, it's got to start with getting Bush more involved in the offense.
The other area that has to answer the call this week is the Miami third down defense. Miami went into the Colts game as the league leader in third down defense. Then they gave up 13 of 19 conversions to Indianapolis, and followed that with an 8-for-17 day against the Titans. The defense has to get back to stopping teams on third down.
The Dolphins have a chance to step up and show that they are a relevant team in the NFL tomorrow night on a nationally televised game. They have a chance to show that they will not crumble just because of two bad games. Can the team respond? We will find out tomorrow night.
