The Phinsider NFL Week 3 Power Rankings

The Green Bay Packers continue their stranglehold on the Phinsider NFL Power Ranking top spot.
The Green Bay Packers continue their stranglehold on the Phinsider NFL Power Ranking top spot.

Lots of movement within this week's Phinsider NFL Power Rankings, as teams over- or under-achieve.  This year seems full of teams that are supposed to be good, and aren't, along with teams that should be bad, but aren't.  Will some of these results be the same three-, four-, or five- weeks from now?  Well'll see.

As all of these surprises happen, it's interesting to see how people perceive them. Because of this, there are wide decrepancies in the rankings of each individual voter for some teams.  Take, for example the San Diego Chargers.Matty I ranked them as the third team in the league.  Meanwhile, kmb8488 put them as the 10th team.  Texascowpunk and I rated them at the 8th slot.

Overall, the Green Bay Packers remain at the top posisition.

The top gaining team of the week was the Oakland Raiders, moving up 9 spots to crack the Top 10 (9th).

The biggest loss of the week fell to the Philadelphia Eagles, who find themselves in the 18th position, after being ranked at number 7 last week.

Green Bay Packers

Looked strong on the road against Bears. Banged-up secondary is still a huge concern, though. (kmb8488)

2

4

New Orleans Saints

Got beat early by the Texans, but recovered late.  Starting to round into form and could be emerging as favorite to face Packers in NFC Championship. (Mosul_DolFan)

3

2

New England Patriots

4

5

3

4

Sure they lost to the Bills but if the Pats were to play the Bills 10 more times I take the Pats to win 9 of those. Brady will not throw 4 picks very often and probably not again this season. (texascowpunk)

4

9

Baltimore Ravens

5

Offense looked very potent against a pedestrian Rams' secondary. Nevertheless, Flacco finally has receiving weapons galore. (kmb8488)

5

6

Detroit Lions

Even an extremely slow start in Minnesota couldn't stop these guys. Stafford-to-Megatron is the premier offensive hook-up right now. (kmb8488)

6

3

Houston Texans

4

7

Setback against the Saints after jumping out to a lead, couldn't hold on to it.  Look for the Texans to get back on track against the Steelers this week (Mosul_DolFan)

7

8

San Diego Chargers

Closer  than it should have been against KC. Rivers in a little funk. But nothing a game against the Dolphins can't break him out of. (Matty I)

16

Buffalo Bills

7

They beat the Pats! Are they for real this year or just playing over their heads for now? A few more wins and I might start to believe. (texascowpunk)

9

18

Oakland Raiders

9

13

Great win vs Jets. D-Mac an early MVP candidate. Let's see where Raiders stand after back-to-back games against NE and HOU, though. (Matty I)

10

13

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

10

12

8

10

Young team making lots of mistakes, but somehow, they win. (Mosul_DolFan)

11

11

Pittsburgh Steelers

11

11

12

9

Probably too kind of a spot for team that came within striking distance of losing to Indianapolis. Roethlisberger will also soon need a walking aid at this rate. Protection up front is nonexistent. (kmb8488)

12

19

New York Giants

12

13

14

11

Beat the "Dream Team" that's now less then dreamy. I say meh but it will get them to the top of the division for at least one week. (texascowpunk)

13

14

Dallas Cowboys

14

15

11

12

9 games decided by 3 points or less since Jason Garrett took over. I think Opie is doing a good job of getting what he can out an average to below average team. (texascowpunk)

14

5

New York Jets

13

10

15

14

Lost to the Raiders, who are better, but still the Raiders. (texascowpunk)

15

15

Washington Redskins

15

19

13

15

Never though my Phins would be bested by the Redskins. Not sure they can play this well all year long. (texascowpunk)

16

12

Chicago Bears

17

14

18

18

Offensive line continues to fold against nimble front sevens. Jay Cutler will soon be on crutches at this rate.  (kmb8488)

17

17

Tennessee Titans

16

16

16

20

Matt Hasselbeck will be looking for a new target this week following the loss of Kenny Britt for the year (Mosul_DolFan)

18

7

Philadelphia Eagles

19

18

19

16

Everyone's pre-season pick has underwhelmed and underperformed thus far. Now with Vick hurting things do not look to get better soon.  (texascowpunk)

19

10

Atlanta Falcons

18

17

20

17

This team should be better than 30 yards rushing. (Mosul_DolFan)

20

21

San Francisco 49ers

21

20

17

19

Niners just a 4th quarter collapse against Dallas away from being unbeaten. But games against PHI, TB, and DET will be good barometer. (Matty I)

21

26

Cleveland Browns

20

21

21

21

Not the prettiest win this week, but Colt McCoy is proving he can get it done last in games.  (kmb8488)

22

27

Carolina Panthers

22

22

23

22

First win for Cam Newton this week.  As long as he keeps performing, Carolina has a chance. (Mosul_DolFan)

23

25

Denver Broncos

24

24

22

24

Another very tough loss for Broncos. But this team is better than many thought. Shows the difference a GOOD coach makes. (Matty I)

24

20

Arizona Cardinals

23

23

25

26

Cardinals just a handful of plays away from being 3-0, losing 2 games by a total of 4 points. Interesting test vs NYG this week. (Matty I)

25

24

Jacksonville Jaguars

25

26

26

23

The Blaine Gabbert era has started. It's not going get easier for the rookie. (Mosul_DolFan)

26

28

Minnesota Vikings

26

25

24

30

An 0-3 team that could beat quite a few 2-1 teams right now. Second-half defense is atrocious, however.  ((kmb8488)

27

29

Cincinnati Bengals

28

28

27

27

Andy Dalton continues to impress, but the Bengals' secondary is a very sorry group. (kmb8488)

28

31

Seattle Seahawks

29

27

31

25

Sidney Rice w/ very good Seahawk debut and Seattle nabs first win. Makes sense. (Matty I)

29

22

Miami Dolphins

27

30

28

28

Nothing to say here that has not been said already.  (texascowpunk)

30

23

St. Louis Rams

31

29

30

29

A disastrous start to the season. But in a bad division, don't count them out yet. Next 4 are brutal, though (Wash, GB, Dal, NO). (Matty I)

31

30

Indianapolis Colts

30

31

29

31

The Colts hung with the Steelers for a while.  But in the end, the Peyton Manning-less Colts are not good. (Mosul_DolFan)

32

32

Kansas City Chiefs

32

32

32

32

A valiant effort last week but not good enough. Next 2 weeks probably best 2 opportunities to pick up first win (v Min; @Ind). (Matty I)
