Happy Birthday Former Dolphins Punter Reggie Roby

Today is the birthday of one of the greatest punters in National Football League history. The late, great Reggie Roby would have been 50 today. He died in 2005 in his home in Nashville, TN at the age of 43.

The 6'4", 250 lbs. Roby was a 7 time NFL All-Pro, 3 time Pro Bowler, and was named to the NFL All Decade Team for the 1980s.

Roby led the league twice in punting average (1986 - 38.7 yards per punt, 1991 - 45.7 yards per punt), and still holds the Dolphins record for single game punting average, with 58.5 yards per punt on September 28, 1986 against the San Francisco 49ers. Roby also holds the Dolphins record for longest single punt, with a 77 yarder in Buffalo on November 29, 1987 (sadly, the punt only netted 7-yards after the 70-yard return).

Sadly, Roby was found without a pulse by his wife Melissa on February 22, 2005. He left behind his wife, and six children, Brittany, Bry, Julian, Dominic, Sophia, and Jovita. No cause of death has ever been announced.
