The #7 Miami Dolphins Draft Bust of All Time is...
Jason Allen, who was a 2006 1st round pick, 16th overall.
Ah yes - Nick Saban. Great coach when it comes to Xs and Os. Not so great when it comes to talent evaluation. The man simply fell in love with players he was familiar with from his time coaching in the SEC. That's the only way to explain his selection of Jason Allen with the 16th overall pick when many draft analysts didn't have Allen rated in their top 25 overall.
At least I can see what Saban probably saw in Allen. He had the measurables of a first round pick. But aren't NFL personnel people and head coaches supposed to look beyond just measurables?
Making things worse, of course, is the list of players Saban passed over to select Allen. Good players like Antonio Cromartie, Santonio Holmes, Tamba Hali, DeAngelo Williams, Davin Joseph, Nick Mangold, DeMeco Ryans, and Greg Jennings.
The sad part is this blunder wasn't even Saban's worst in two years with the Dolphins.
