Miami Dolphins Top 10 Best Draft Picks: #1 Dan Marino

New, comments

The best Miami Dolphins draft pick of all time is...

Dan Marino, who was a 1983 1st round pick, 27th overall.

I know what you're thinking - how can a first round pick be considered the best pick in franchise history? My answer is simple: 26 players were drafted before the Dolphins selected the greatest pure passer in NFL history.

Where do I even start this? What can I possibly say about Dan that hasn't been said already time and time again. His ridiculous numbers speak for themselves. 61,361 career passing yards. 420 career passing touchdowns. 4,967 career completions. 9 Pro Bowls. First ballot Hall of Famer.

I guess the only thing I will add is this. If Marino had been drafted 20 years later and played in today's pass-friendly NFL, his numbers would be totally out of this world. That classic 1984 season - also known as the greatest single season a quarterback has ever had - would look even more insane if it had occurred in 2004. Think 6,000 yards and 55 touchdowns at the very least in today's NFL.
