Miami Dolphins Top 10 Best Draft Picks: #8 Sam Madison

The 8th best Miami Dolphins draft pick of all time is...

Sam Madison, who was a 1997 2nd round pick, 44th overall.

Yesterday we discussed Patrick Surtain - the second half of the dynamic duo. Today is Madison's time to be on the spotlight - who was selected in the exact same spot as Surtain (44th overall), just a year earlier.

Not to take anything away from Surtain, but Madison was the superior player of the two. While both corners were outstanding cover guys, Madison is the guy who opposing teams respected more - limiting his interception opportunities. He still finished is Dolphins career with 31 total interceptions - third all-time in team history.

Madison was also a four time Pro Bowler and was twice named a first-team All-Pro. He led the league in interceptions in 1999 one year after finishing in second.

Some corners who were selected before Madison in '97 include Dexter McCleon, Rob Kelly, and two cornerbacks selected in the top 11 of the first round - Tom Knight and Michael Booker.
