No, that's probably not Davone Bess on Twitter

As you probably have heard, there's an account on Twitter that claims to be Dolphins WR Davone Bess.  You can view it by clicking here.  But it's beginning to look like this isn't the real Davone Bess, but rather it's an impostor.

It first starting looking like the account belonged to a "fake Davone" when Finstache posted on his blog some photos taken off of this person's Twitter account that were clearly not Davone Bess.  But the "fake Bess" said that wasn't him - claiming they were photos a friend took and posted.

But then our very own Rzayo24 began to really crack the case when he looked into the timing of the tweets from this person's account.  So I decided to investigate this further as well.  And here's what I learned.

The Dolphins kicked off their final minicamp on June 12.  Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post tweeted at 2:51 on June 12 that he was headed out to practice at 3:15 - with practice scheduled for 3:30 that day.  Thompson also tweeted about what was going on at practice at 3:33, 3:37, 3:40, and 3:42.  So, clearly, the Dolphins were practicing.  In fact, Thompson's 3:40 tweet read, "Who has better hands: Camarillo or Bess? Too close to call, both don't drop anything."

However, the "fake Bess" tweeted on June 12 at 3:00, 3:15, 3:17, and 4:08.  But wasn't the real Davone Bess at practice at that time?

A similar event occurred on June 14, the final day of minicamp.  The Dolphins had an early practice scheduled for that day.  Edgar Thompson tweeted at 10:43 in the morning that practice was just beginning with stretching.  But the "fake Bess" began a live chat stream on the website "ustream" at 5:49 am on June 14.  He also never went to sleep before that, tweeting nonstop from 10 pm on June 13 up to his live webcast at 5:49 on the 14th.  Then at 12:11 pm on the 14th, the "fake Bess" tweeted "Good morning everybody" even though practice was probably just finishing up around that time.

Oh - and on June 12 at 6:21 am - just hours before the first minicamp practice - the "fake Bess" tweeted, "Damn I got a flight to vegas @ 11am."  So why would he book a flight to Las Vegas when minicamp was just getting started?

Yeah - doesn't smell right, does it?

[Update by Matty I at 4:12 am] Just to add one more piece of evidence that really shouts that "Lambo_Weezy" is not Davone Bess, on June 1at 11:10 pm, the "fake Bess" tweets, "Mondrian is the best hotel in hollywood."  Then on June 2 at 3:06 pm, he tweets, "Wat is everybody doing? talk to me I'm bored @ the hotel room thinkin bout goin to the Beverly center in a lil bit."  The Beverly Center, by the way, is a mall in Los Angeles.  Then at 5:02, this guy tweets about going to USC to play basketball.  The problem with all this?  Well, the Dolphins had an OTA on June 2 that was open to the media.  And Omar Kelly tweets at 10:02 am on June 2, "Davone Bess paired with Ted Ginn as the starting WRs."  Yeah - the real Davone Bess was in Florida practicing at the time.  This just about seals the deal for me - though I'll wait for official confirmation. [end update]

With all that said, though, it seems like the person who is tweeting from this account claiming to be Bess has even fooled some NFL players - including Chad Ochocinco, Chris Johnson, and LenDale White - making it even harder to figure out.

But to put an end to this saga, I have reached out and put a call into Davone Bess's agent.  I have also contacted two team officials within the Dolphins organization.  If I hear back, I will pass the information along as soon as I get it.  In all honesty, though, I'm expecting to learn that the "Lambo_Weezy" Twitter account is not the real Davone Bess.

One final note - this is the last I'm going to focus on this.  We've already given too much attention to a guy who is likely not Davone Bess.  We'll focus on some real Dolphins news here.  This will be my last word on this topic until I hear back from Davone's agent or from the team - or we get confirmation in some way from one of the Miami newspapers.

[Update by Matty I 1:10 pm] I have received word from two Dolphins officials that they are having their security team look into the situation. [end update]
