1 25 Vontae Davis
CB Illinois

After much waiting and much debating, the Dolphins have selected cornerback Vontae Davis.  Davis is immensely talented but does have those "character concerns."  But he's got the size and speed that Bill Parcells likes.  And this fills the most glaring weakness on the roster.

Davis measures in at a little over 5'11, 203 pounds.  He ran a 4.49 40 at the Combine and benched 225 pounds 25 times.  He loves to hit - which is something that I'm sure the Dolphins like in Davis.

Below is Vontae's scouting report from Draft Countdown:

Strengths: Prototypical height and bulk...Smooth and fluid with top-notch athleticism...Excellent speed...Flips his hips well and can turn and run...Has a burst to close and can recover when beat...Very strong with a muscular physique...Tough and physical...Gets a good jam at the line...A reliable tackler who can deliver the big hit...Does a fantastic job in run support...Decent hands and ball skills...Capable of excelling in either man or zone coverage...May offer some positional versatility...Solid return man and special teamer...Durable...Has lots of experience against top competition...Nice bloodlines..Major upside.

Weaknesses: Has clashed with coaches and does not take instruction well...Poor work ethic...Inconsistent...Motor runs hot and cold...Questionable instincts and awareness...Gambles and takes too many unnecessary risks...Gets too high in his backpedal...Doesn't make as many plays as he should...Struggles with the mental aspects of the game...Skates by on his natural talent...Full of himself and reads his own press clippings.
