Well the rumor is now official. The Dolphins have indeed placed rookie starting guard Donald Thomas on Injured Reserve - officially ending his rookie season just one game into it.
Thomas has been the best story out of camp thanks to his strong showing and ability to win the starting right guard spot. Even Bill Parcells referred to Thomas as a "Godsend" during training camp. But that ankle injury, one which he played through on Sunday, was apparently enough for the Dolphins to end his season. It's a big blow, for sure, to a unit that lacks any depth and struggled at times against the Jets.
Evan Mathis, the player signed to take Thomas' roster spot, does have starting experience with Dan Henning and Mike Maser. But this is still a big loss and, quite honestly, just gives me the feeling that this year is beginning to head down the same road that last season did. This is a team that cannot survive numerous injuries, and already a promising starter has been lost for the year.
Don't know what else to say right now...
