Like I said: something always happens when I'm on vacation. I just got back and, as I was driving, I receive a wonderful text message that reads, "WR Chambers arrested for impaired driving." Great, huh?
So here's the link to the arrest page on the website for the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's office, complete with all three charges, his bond amounts, and his mug shot. The Dolphins, nor Chambers, have made any public comments on the incident.
It'll be interesting to see what kind of punishment he'll get. Since it is his first offence, I would imagine the league would take relatively minimal action (possibly a hefty fine) rather than suspending him. Of course, with the Commish coming down hard on these kinds of "off-field" incidents, who really knows. In fact, we are all still waiting to hear what kind of action the league will take against Joey Porter.
As for the team, I'd bet he'll get a very stern warning and possibly a fine, but I can't see them coming down too hard on him.
Like I said, something big always seems to happen when I go away. This year, I was hoping it would be the signing of the remaining 4 unsigned rookies, but I guess that was asking too much. And speaking of which, time is starting to run out. Rookies report on July 22 and the team's top 3 picks, as well as Drew Mormino, have yet to sign. In fact, I haven't heard anything about negotiations between the Dolphins and Ted Ginn or John Beck. I guess this week is going to be a VERY important week. With only 1 team having signed their 1st round pick (the Bears), getting these guys in on time might be an issue. And it will look very bad if the Dolphins can't get all of their rookies into camp on time after owner Wayne Huizenga came out and publicly said he will not tolerate hold-outs. I guess we'll wait and see.
As for us here at "The Phinsider," we will begin our training camp positional previews this week. So be sure to check back early and often.
