what vets will the phins sign after the jets game

Since current league rules require teams to guarantee the entire value of a vets contract  (current year that is) if they are on the teams roster for the first game, hence teams are leary of signing vets before the first game (see john lynch for example... everyone is certain lynch will be resigned by the pats on monday)...

Some of this has lead people to believe that many vets are unsigned right now because of this rule... (see S Alexander for example)....

what vets does everyone thing the fins will have their eyes on? I assume that Peele will be resigned on monday at a lesser rate, and maybe t darilek is a highly likely resigning with one of the waiver wire guys going to the practice squad....

any other ideas?

Beck still on the market

http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolphins_in_depth/2008/08/dolphins-trad-1.html

according to mando over at the herald, team sources have told him not to assume that beck won't be traded, in fact every player except J Long are available for the right price....

some highlights from his blog..

"One source, however, tells me to refrain from including John Beck as a certainty in that group. Seems teams are also asking about Beck as a trade possibility and as Bill Parcells once told me, "Everyone on this team can be traded for the right price except Jake Long."

Bill's fan is getting a little frisky

Do not watch this if you don't have a strong stomach

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3b87VUFugL4&feature=related

this link  was sent to me by bills fan...they are getting ready for the season i guess...

but it shows a couple of things... anyone who doubted that BP needed to clean house is wrong, anyone who felt that Cam got a raw deal is wrong, and that john beck can hold onto the football when he is sacked....

but otherwise this video makes me sick (but i did have to laugh at the first 3 minutes)

Since the Cam is gone - a new look at the 07 draft

and camp 2 is starting for these guys... lets throw it around alittle

t ginn - have to say ted has regressed a little this year so far... only reports of dropped balls (although not as bad as some others), unable to create seperation, and still is learning to run routes... I'm not willing to call this pick a total bust, as others have, but receivers generally take 2-4 years to develop let alone raw ones...but this pick could go either way right now as ted still has upside but could just as easily be a bust.

(2) J beck - much to the dismay of the Beckies around here... has moved into the bust category. not likely to be around much longer

(2) Satele - the prize of the draft... not sure if he will become a probowler or if ferguson eating his lunch everyday will ruin him, but right now looks to be a solid starter for the long term.

(3) L Booker - no longer on the team, the current admin saw no need for a 3rd down back unable to play any other role. Inablility to play special teams doomed him with the current admin... still I can't say this was a bad pick because I think he will do well in philly.

(4) Soliai - jury is out... not sure if he will make the team, but he does have the physical tools to make the team, we just have to wait and see if he wants to use those tools or not.

(6) mauia - likely cut? anyways drafting FB is pretty much a luxury pick and this team needed to select better..

(6) Mormin - out of football - bust

(7) K smith - career ending knee surgery - likely wouldn't have made the team

Fields - favorite (if a kicker can ever be) of BP... I don't see it... I saw a guy who was too *long* in deliever last year, and when pressured and he had to shorten up, he shanked it... but he is still on the team

A Wright - no longer on the team

hits  2 - Satele & Fields

no longer on the team 4 -Booker, Mormino, smith, wright

jobs in jeopardy  3 - Beck, Soliai, Mauia

unknown 1 - t ginn

analysis   - a year ago this draft looked like it had some promise, but right now its starting to drift towards the below average category, but the good news is it will be hard to call it a wanny bust draft since its likely that satale will be around for a while but only getting a punter and a center who are average nfl players shouldn't be considered a success.

Peter King isn't a Beckie

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/08/10/ufl/2.html

Peter King makes the following observations in his MMQ..

c. Chris Simms (8-of-10 vs. Miami, took a good hit, felt fine) will be well-pursued when the Bucs let him go this month.

d. John Beck will not.

e. Ricky Williams (five carries, 31 yards) looked like an NFL running back against Tampa Bay.

Doesn't sound  as if Mssr King is that high on the Beck... But the phins should take a shot on simms when he's let go and they might have an inside track with the parcells - simms family history.

Did the JTaylor Trade make the

Pennington signing possible? (left coast - i know you're on top of the current cap number).

IIRC miami was 6-8 mil under the cap when they traded JT... of that money, you need 2-3 million to carry through the season to cover injury signings. the team also hasn't been shy about the fact that they expect to pick up a bunch of dregs(errr season pros) off the waiver wire, and they will likely need another 3-5 mil in cap space for that... Hence they would have had very little wiggle room to work a deal for pennington, especially when 5 other teams were bidding...

But the trade of JT Cleared out 8 or 8.5 million in needed salary cap space to freely us?? so the end result is Miami traded JT for Pennington and Washington's 2nd round pick... (btw: in case I don't say this enough, i hope they don't win a game this year)

Beck to start; showcase for a trade?

ESPN is reporting that John Beck was told he will play the 1st and 3rd quarters and Chad Henne will play the 2nd and the 4th quarters against Tampa:

Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano has refused to reveal Saturday's quarterback plans, but ESPN.com has learned from multiple sources that before the Pennington deal was made, the coaching staff informed the quarterbacks Beck would play the first and third quarters, and Henne would play the second and fourth quarters, leaving McCown completely off the field.

All three wondered what the team's motivation was.

Is it supposed to be a showcase for a potential Beck trade? Is it to distribute the snaps to the two quarterbacks who will be sticking around?

This is likely Beck's last chance to impress the brass.  It's hard to believe that anyone other then Pennington and Henne, if even him, will get first team snaps, since there is so little time to get Pennington ready for the Jets game...

[Editor's Note by Matty I] I've edited this for front-page posting.  Also, I wanted to point out that the ESPN article brings up interesting questions.  On one hand, like W NY Fins Fan points out, this could be to showcase Beck for a possible trade.  On the other hand, it could be a move to get reps to the two QBs who will stick around, implying that Josh McCown is on his way out.  Regardless, the pressure is likely on John now to go out and prove he belongs - making this front office's decision even tougher. [end note]

can we dump someone on Pittsburgh

since the new franchise QB just signed (my goodness i knew it would be a long season but I didn't think they could ruin it in camp) and there is no way they'll carry 4 qbs....

PFT.com says Batch just broke his collar bone and they don't have another QB on the roster.... any hope that the fins can drop beck or mccown on them for say a 4th 5th rounder?

Its like de ja vous all over again and again

Here is my morning... i'm happily sleeping in bed... dreaming of the future of the miami dolphins and a bright one it is too... Management has finally agreed with me and they draft the stud LT, they go out and improve an ancient d/line and they draft the QB of the future... Wow, its like a dream coming true after the last 10 years? 15? (marino wasn't very good the last 2 or 3).... BAM the radio turns on...

Its Sonny and Cher... oh not not those guys again... Rise and shine campers ITS GROUNDHOG DAY!!!! Great news folks, the miami dolphins just signed a new caretaker QB, yup that's right another older, weak armed injure prone, vet that is going to eat up development time for the future, in the happy pursuit of an 8-8 record....  Season after season, new admin after new admin, its the same *&^$ thing over and over again.

Its Dante's 13th circle of Hell.... I'm destined to live my remaining time without ever seeing a franchise QB play in miami again!!! Fiedler, ferotte, culpepper, harrington, green, and now Pennington!!!! I can only imagine what its like to be a colts fan...we cant start the season with the rookie, we might mess up his potential by playing him... lets get someone to teach him the ropes....

D Ross, please wake me up from this nightmare and I promise to love and respect you in the NEXT DAY.

What team will Beck end up with??

Just getting a little bit ahead of the curve here, but I think this is pretty realistic.....

Ok, Henne is starting to put some distance between himself and Beck for the QB job, and now it appears that it's just a question of if Henne can win the starting job for game 1. Let us all hope that he is the one....(i don't want another caretaker qb, while henne festers on the bench)

That will pretty much nullify Beck's role as 'the future qb', and since he is not a BP guy, he'll be the third wheel. So I suspect they will get what they can for him.... hence the (cough, cough) evaluation of quincy carter, yesterday.

So I'm quessing that we'll start hearing rumors that the phins will be shoppng Beck around to everyone... i'm hoping for a 4th or 5th rounder (is that way too high?)

but i'm just not sure who will take him?

Baltimore (back to cam?)

KC (boy do they need a qb)

minn?

Oak? they have no back ups?

indy? would they trade for a back up (even though they need one!!!!)

who will take the phins dirty laundry, anyone?

Poll
where will Beck be at the start of the season?
  • Miami
  • unemployment line - looking for a team
  • Baltimore (cam loves him baby)
  • KC (they need a warm body)
  • Oakland
  • carolina
  • TB (can't have enough QB's on the roster)
  • Chicago
  • detroit
  • Minnesota
  • other NFL team
  • CFL
