The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #15 - Detroit Lions

With the 14th pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the Chicago Bears select Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt.

Williams picked up 52% of the vote.  Second place was Branden Albert with 10%.

So here are the last 5 picks of the draft:

  1. New Orleans Saints - Keith Rivers, LB, USC (41%)
  2. Buffalo Bills - Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma (25%)
  3. Denver Broncos - Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt (30%)
  4. Carolina Panthers - Rashard Mendenhall, RB, Illinois (32%)
  5. Chicago Bears - Chris Williams, OT, Vanderbilt

Up next, with the 15th pick, are the Detroit Lions.  For analysis and insight on the Lions, head over to Pride of Detroit.  Below are the Lions' draft needs, courtesy of NFL Draft Countdown:

1. Running Back: Kevin Jones was never able to stay healthy and was sent packing which essentially leaves little (Brian Calhoun) or nothing (Aveion Cason) on their roster at the running back position.
2. Offensive Tackle: George Foster was a massive disappointment and things got so bad that Damien Woody, a natural guard / center, was actually seeing action at right tackle by the end of the season.
3. Middle Linebacker: Teddy Lehman never fulfilled his promise and bolted as a free agent so Rod Marinelli is still looking for a speedy, athletic middle 'backer to plug into his "Tampa 2" defensive scheme.

Lions
I can understand why people would take a running back here, but I'm going corner. Too much value. I took McKelvin.

yea
I'm surprised McKelvin is still around here.

I had McKelvin
going in the top 10 to either NE or Baltimore.

but if the Pats did...
...have DRC rated higher than McKelvin, then it's very possible he could fall this far.  I don't think any of the picks are completely unrealistic.

Matty...
even if the pats have DRC as their guy, you still have the Ravens, Saints, and Bills who could all use CB help.

So at least in my view, I think McKelvin is gone by now.

We'll see though. There is always lots of shuffling around just before the draft.

True...
...I do think the Ravens are a very likely spot.  The Bills and Saints I could see passing on McKelvin in order to address other needs.
