The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #13 - Carolina Panthers

With the 12th pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the Denver Broncos select Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt.

Otah picked up 30% of the vote, followed closely by Chris Williams, who got 22% of the vote.  Kenny Phillips finished in third with 13%.

So here are the last 5 picks in the mock draft:

  1. Baltimore Ravens - Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU (41%)
  2. Cincinnati Bengals - Sedrick Ellis, DT, LSU (80%)
  3. New Orleans Saints - Keith Rivers, LB, USC (41%)
  4. Buffalo Bills - Malcolm Kelly, WR, Oklahoma (25%)
  5. Denver Broncos - Jeff Otah, OT, Pitt (30%)
You can see the entire mock draft by clicking here.

Up next, with the 13th pick, are the Carolina Panthers.  Check out Cat Scratch Reader for the best Panthers' analysis and insight.  Below are the draft needs for the Panthers, courtesy of NFL Draft Countdown:

1. Offensive Tackle: Both Jordan Gross and Travelle Wharton were free agents who were retained but Wharton is going to be moving inside to guard which means they still need to find a stud left tackle.
2. Safety: Chris Harris turned out to be a steal and is solid at one spot but Deke Cooper is more of a backup and could be upgraded. There really isn't a whole lot of depth to speak of at safety either...
3. Quarterback: Jake Delhomme is coming off a serious injury and had been on shaky ground before that. Meanwhile David Carr was a huge flop and Matt Moore is still unproven and more of a #2 or 3.

I have to go with..
Chris Williams here to fill their OT needs. Williams is a solid prospect. With Otah and Clady gone (at least by this mock), then Williams becomes an obvious selection.

I've heard mumblings of the Panthers being interested in kenny phillips and/or derrick harvey but I think it would be tough for them to pass on a solid OT.

Panthers
They can go alot of ways here. Alot of good corners still on the board. I went with Rashard Mendenhall. I think the Panthers fit the bill as a team that likes to run and play the clock game with a good defense. I'm not sure they have an answer at running back yet. The jury is still out on DeAngelo Williams.

Rashard
In this pick they would just have to go with the best player on board at this time.If a guy like rashard falls in there lap then they should go with him,Where talken about a guy that at times was raided higher than mcfadden. An they let go of dashaun foster,so now they only got 1 back in deangalo williams and hes not a great back.So with rashard they can have that good one to punch that they want and take a load off there passing game..................

I definitely don't see the Panthers going RB
in the 1st round.  They just let DeShaun Foster go to give DeAngelo Williams a chance.  Why waste a pick on another RB?  They need help on the offensive and defensive lines.  Chris Williams was a much better pick.  This draft is deep with RBs in rouns 2 and 3.  If the Panthers really need another RB to spell Williams get him later, not in round 1.

Panthers...
really need help at running back. I think they can get a good running back like Ray Rice in the 2nd round that's why I went with Williams.
