Video Time!
It's Saturday, which means it's time for a video. At the risk of people saying I have a "man-crush" on John Beck, below is a video of John's final performance of the 2007 season against the Bengals. Notice how much better he looks compared to his outings against the Jets and Bills. Could it be it's because he had time to throw? Very possible. Of course, the Bengals were also sitting back with a big lead, but nonetheless, it's fun to see how accurate John is when he has time to get his feet.
Two throws in particular I want to highlight. The first is at about 1:15 of the video on a 3rd and 4 play. John drops back, plants his feet, and throws a strong and accurate pass to Greg Camarillo running the skinny post to gain about 13. The other is at 1:42 of the video. Beck throws a beautiful pass to Derek Hagan, who is open down the seam in between 3 or 4 Bengal defenders. Again, John has time to drop back, set his feet, and deliver a pass with just the right amount of speed and touch to pick up 22 yards.
Barring any breaking Dolphins news, I'll see you back here Sunday night/Monday morning. Have a good weekend, all!

how cool
BTW, Lorenzo Booker! Did we forget he is on our team?
Already deleted
PS
I feel like we'd have a better chance of seeing them more than a few hours after you put them up.
The vid wasn't deleted...
I purposely made it without a thumbnail to that it would be harder to detect for deletion.

What I Saw In this Video...
Now it may seem that I am being hyper-critical of Beck. Let me say that I do like him and his abilities. He can be very accurate on the short passes, and I've seen some glimpses of accuracy down the field. I wanted him to play immediately after the bye week last year and let him ride out the year, hits to the ego and all. This "kid" doesn't have a lot of time to show he can be a good starter.
What do I need to see more of to see if he's the answer to our QB problem? I need to see if he has consistent accuracy on the passes that are more than 10 yds. If he isn't consistently accurate down the field, he's another Jay Fiedler. What that means is that the team CAN win with him, but will NOT win because of him. It means he will be a middle of the pack QB at best. Without that accuracy down the field, he is just another caretaker of the QB position for us.
We'll know what BP thinks of him by how he drafts. If he picks one of the 2nd tier QB's, Henne, Flacco, etc.. its my opinion that he doesn't view him as a longterm solution. If he waits until the later rounds to draft a QB, then that tells me that BP thinks Beck can get the job done. We'll see.
That Is...
Agreed..

I Don't Agree...
Huh? Wut? That was the other team's player? Nvermind. :(
No excuse
I am not sure what Bill Parcell's will do, but I think it will be between the Long's and Ryan (with the edge going to the Longs). However, it would be nice to see how Beck does behind Jake Long next year.
Just my take.
Beck reminds me of Griese
You see a great array of passes, all with touch and accuracy.
The shuttle pass
Throwing on the roll out
Dump off with touch to Booker over the blitzing LB in his face.
Slicing passes over the middle between coverage.
Cinci had not given up and was challenging the receivers in nickel and dime formations.
Rather than picking Ryan, stick with Beck and pick Jake Long to bookend with Carey to give Beck the kind of time he saw in the Cinci game. I promise you will be happy with the results.

You guys checked the front page of SI today...
At some point the comparisons to Howie began to fade. Even though they both played defensive end in a 3-4, Chris is clearly quicker with his feet and his hands, so much so that he's capable of becoming an outside linebacker in the NFL. Steve Rosner, who represents Howie and used to represent Lawrence Taylor, turned to Howie during a game at Virginia last fall and told him, "Chris is as close to Lawrence Taylor as anybody I've ever seen."
The Miami Dolphins, who have the first pick in the draft, will have all the intelligence they need on Chris. Their new executive vice president is Bill Parcells, under whom Groh worked as an assistant during Parcells's stints with the New York Giants, New England Patriots and New York Jets. Groh has told Parcells, "He's your kind of player."
