Calvin Pace Monday Update
Here's the latest on "Calvin Pace Watch 2008," courtesy of Armando Salguero:
Pace is also said to be mulling lifestyle issues. He loved South Florida's weather and was impressed when he met Bill Parcells. He's a Detroit native but lives in Atlanta so he also likes the idea of being closer to home.
Man, how much longer does this have to be dragged out? After Lance Briggs signed for just $6 million per year and just $12 million in guaranteed money over those 6 years, Calvin needs to realize that no team is going to offer him that $20 million in guarantees that he's looking for.
Regardless, we continue to wait...

It is not a trivial decision...
The thing though, as we saw with Briggs, is that while CB's and OL have gotten bundles in FA, LB'ers are not making out nearly so well.
And as for caring only about money, let's be real - that is by and large what the league is about. People wanted Asante Samuel here didn't they? Would they have complained if he'd signed with us, since we would obviously have to have offered more than the pats?
How can you blame him?
I think his agent is doing a good job and he will probably play it out for another day or so and then tale the best offer available.

Pace
bullshit.
NONE of these guys "care about the Dolphins"! They ALL signed for their own reasons... FIRST and FOREMOST being MONEY.
"This isn't a business".... really..?
At the end of the day, a "downtrodden" or otherwise organization is not obligated to sign him or any other FA. It is a bidding war, and if you are in demand, you play it up and get the best deal possible.
How can you even make statements like that with a straight face? Are you kidding?

Pace
NFL
All I gotta say to Pace is.... look how they treat their veterans over there. See Kendall, Pete. Coles, Lavernious. Vilma, Jonathan.
Agree, Agree, Agree
I am sure lots of people will bring up us releasing Zach, and maybe JT, but we do that in a respectable manner. We don't low ball them like the Jets have done with their players. We cut the ties in the easiest ways for both sides. Plus, Zach wasn't going to fit in this system, so he understood!

most of them
you dont hear to often a player in his mid 20s taking a pay cut. they try and make money early for security and win the championships late. you really cant fault the men for trying to make as much money as they can.
if you got a contract offer from 2 jobs doing the same thing which one would you take(more money or less money)? i know that is cheesy way of looking at it but its the same thing.
It is a legit comparison
Plus don't forget, most of these ball players careers are very short when you think of them compared to most people's careers. For instance, most of us will work in our careers for 30+ years. Being a football player is on average not even 1/2 that long.
You might as well make the most you can because pretty soon, your football playing days will be over...be it by injury, age, or some other factor.
For 22 million Gauranteed?`

never implied
my whole argument was that i couldnt understand why everone was getting mad at this guy for trying to get more money. thats the nfl and for that fact human nature. im sure bp had a contract that he wasnt gonna budge with and that was that.
Just say no to Pace
Oh please

MONEY...
pace is what 26/27 somewhere in there right. he is a FA and has 2 teams that want him and he wants to take his time with the decision. i personally have to problem with that. its not like we are playing a game tomorrow and need him on the roster right now. i mean seriously whats the hurry the draft isnt for like 2 months.
and for the money aspect of all this.. can you really blame the guy for getting the most of this opprotunity? what if he blows his knee out this season and "settled" for a contract with a low guarntee? this is a business and he should get what he can out of it.
lets face it these guys dont play for free, nor would i if i were them. most are in the league for like 5 years so get the most out of it you can. we love our team and thats why we are fans, but these players have no allegance to teams and are playing the game to GET PAID. thats the way it is and always will be. the man is trying to get the best deal and it is what it is.
Doesn't Matter
It is my opinion that "defense" wins championships (ala Giants, Bears, Dolphins, etc.). The offense will be addressed, but the #1 pick goes defense (Chris Long). I see Chris developing into that position personified by A.J. Duhe and Jason Taylor. Besides, the money that will be spilled all over the first pick, justifies it on a defensive lineman. Just look at the last couple of years (Jason included).
With the aura surrounding Pace, it seems he's fast becomming a high-strung, vain, temperamental person -- aka prima donna. The difference in living in Miami or New Jersey is about as clear cut as it can get. And the money?, pa-leez. He's no Jason or Zach, much less a Dan Marino of defense. There's a bunch of other linebackers out there that could be had for less and have more of a resume.
I'm tired of the guy already....................until he signs with the Dolpnins ;-)
