Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Video Time: Jake Long Edition

Two videos for you today. Both are of potential #1 pick Jake Long.

The first one is Jake Long against another potential top 10 pick, Florida DE Derrick Harvey. You'll see that he does a good job on Harvey, except for the first play where Harvey does kind of run over Long.

And incase you're wondering what Jake likes to do in his spare time, see video #2 by clicking "Read More."

Don't forget to cast your vote for the Bills' pick in our community mock draft, which can be found two posts below or by clicking here.

Star-divide

I bet he's better than me at Guitar Hero. But I could take him on the field. Uh, yea, sure I can!

Anyways, I'll see you back here on Sunday night/Monday morning. Have a good weekend, all!

The Hulk
looked pretty dominant in those videos.  In my opinion, his ability to handle elite NFL speed will determine if he is LT or RT material.

Long
appears dominant against the run in this video though he does get whipped on a flat out bullrush by Harvey where Harvey gets lower than him and pushes Long into Henne.

By now we have all heard of Long's potential issues with speed off the corner.

Matty - if there is any way you can get tape of the Ohio State game against Michigan that would be fabulous. I remember Gholston having a good day against Long.  Whatever Gholston's inconsistencies may have been, he surely does have NFL speed off the corner as an edge rusher. I think it would show Long's weaknesses, at least as of the present.

you know what would be a lot easier?
Just have a private workout (with full pads) between  Jake and Chris long...whoever wins the 50 play battle (lol) gets picked...end of story...

This was the game for me
After this bowl game I was real high on Long.  There was one play where they ran a pass to him.  It didn't work out but he looked so athletic. Almost like a mammoth H-Back.  He could be a sneaky red zone option as an eligible receiver if his hands are any way decent. In general he looked huge, loose and capable of blocking whoever the Gators threw at him, which is saying alot.    Also, Henne looks really sharp.  If Henne slips far enough, I hope Bill snatches him up.

Here is Kirwan's opinion about the top OTs
and whether they project better as L or R side.
Nice article.

JAKE LONG
"Michigan's Jake long, the top tackle prospect in the draft, looks like he could be headed to the right side in a perfect world."

and

"Long also spoke about his games against Vernon Gholston and Derrick Harvey this past season. He was impressed with Gholston's power and Harvey's speed. Those two games are must-watch tapes for the team thinking of taking Long at the top of this draft."

JEFF OTAH
Jeff Otah, the massive kid from Pittsburgh who didn't even start playing football until his senior year of high school and only had 24 college starts, looks like he's better suited for the right side, according to offensive line coaches I spoke with this week.

GOSDER CHERILUS
Gosder Cherilus from Boston College was the most interesting prospect I spent time with, but he, too, looks better suited for the right side.

RYAN CLADY
Ryan Clady of Boise State appears to be left tackle candidate, but he comes from a school that has never had a first-round selection, some of his test scores are yellow flags, he didn't always dominate the competition he faced, and he left school a year early, which most premier tackles in the draft don't do."

Henne
If he can't beat Appalachian State, how can he beat the Patriots?

you cant play
with that type of logic. or else you could say, "if tom brady couldnt start in college, how could he ever win a super bowl." also remember its a team sport. not that im a henne fan or anything but just saying

Don't forget...
...Jake Long played in 28 games in college, and only totaled 2 penalties.

In comparison, Joe Thomas had 3 penalties in 38 games.

You know the other significance of the number 2? It's also the number of sacks credited against him in those 28 games. And, to answer Natalya's question - one of those sacks, the only one of his 2007 season, was Vernon Gholston.
