The Phinsider Community Mock Draft: Pick #7 - New England Patriots
With the sixth pick in The Phinsider Community Mock Draft, the New York Jets select Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State.
Gholston picked up 56% of the vote, with Glenn Dorsey picking up 15% and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie getting 11% of the vote.
So the mock draft now looks like this so far:
- Miami Dolphins - Chris Long, DE, Virginia (49%)
- St. Louis Rams - Jake Long, OT, Michigan (67%)
- Atlanta Falcons - Matt Ryan, QB, BC (68%)
- Oakland Raiders - Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas (47%)
- Kansas City Chiefs - Ryan Clady, OT, Boise St. (30%)
- New York Jets - Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio St. (56%)
2. Linebacker: Tedy Bruschi is essentially playing on a year-to-year basis now, all of their starters are at least 30-years-old and to say there is little or no depth to speak may be a huge understatement.
3. Offensive Tackle: Matt Light is solid at left tackle but certainly not special while Nick Kaczur has been just a marginal starter in the NFL and was exposed at times throughout the season and playoffs.

Corner
Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
agreed
simply amazing
looks like people are picking mid round CB's over him....
I find it very unlikely that the pats would pass on dorsey if he was sitting there for him.

Question W NY...
Why would the pats take him when they have Wilford, Warren, Seymour, and Green on the interior of their defensive line? That's a top notch interior DL. Plus none of those guys is particularly old.
Why would they pick Dorsey when they have those 4 guys on their DL while only Bryant and Hobbs at corner?
For the record....I had Dorsey going to KC at 5. though I could see him going to Atlanta at 3 or Oakland at 4.
good question
plus he's better then at least 2 of those guys and seymour hasn't really held up for them the last couple years....
as to dorsey in the 3-4 maybe, but the talent level is just too high for BB to pass on a gift like this.
granted - i think dorsey will likely go long before this.

Good point Matt...
And W NY, I have to say I think Seymour has been pretty unstoppable since they got him. He's got what, 5 pro bowls in 6 seasons? Granted he wasn't as good last year but I think he's still a top player for them.
Anyway, I think we agree Dorsey won't be there at 7 so this is really just a rhetorical discussion with him & the pats.
i had to go CB
as for "everybody's favorite team to hate",,, i will admit my hate for the jets will always top my hate for the pats,,,, its been that way since i was ten years old, fuck the jets

It could of course play out in some other way...
Speaking of twosomes, to me it comes down to to Cromartie or McKelvin. I see Talib as much more of a FS prospect in the future given his size and decent speed.
McKelvin nominally played a better competition at Troy than Cromartie at Tenn. St. Still, the sunbelt conference isn't exactly the SEC. Cromartie is a bit taller, a bit faster, while McKelvin might be a bit more physical but the differences are small here.
I think Cromartie is their pick though they could just as easily go with McKelvin.
What about Dorsey?
