Cowboys ink Flozell Adams

[editor's note, by Matty I] Thanks to Spacefish for getting this posted. I just edited and reformatted it for front-page posting. [end note]

According to DallasCowboys.com:

For the last 10 years, Flozell Adams has been protecting the Cowboys' starting quarterback.

But he was only a few hours from being unprotected himself.

Instead, the Cowboys avoided free agency with their starting left tackle, signing Adams to a six-year deal late Thursday afternoon.

With free agency officially beginning at 11:01 p.m. (CST) Thursday night, Adams would've been able to start negotiating with other clubs. Now he returns with a contract that will likely keep him in a Cowboys uniform for the remainder of his career.

Bad news
Well now that means that the only big name out there in the o-line is fenca from the steelers. So that also means that we need to get this guy no matta wat,But hes gonna be pretty pricey and now real bad cause hes the only big name o-line in the free agency. So it looks bad for us cuz if we dont get this man you can say that are o-line may even be bader than wat it was last season. But ill tell you this now i hope in the draft we draft atleast 3 big o-line players. That would be the only chance we have into haven atleast an average line next season................

Are said to bid heavy for Faneca. I know he would rather have South Beach than.. What good thing do they have? Anyways, I have to agree and grab Fanny. We can get another in the draft.

John Clayton
Reports.. ''The Cowboys may have faced competition from the Miami Dolphins, who are coached by former Dallas line coach Tony Sparano, whose arrival sparked Adams' career. Bill Parcells was coaching the Cowboys then, and he's now running Miami's front office.''

Very interesting
This may mean that the focus on the draft may have to be on the OL and draft Jake Long.  We will have to see how free agency goes. I know everyone here was saying it was a done deal, but do not worry this is a deep draft for the Oline and we will be fine.  If Faneca becomes too expensive then just go and get the oline guys through the draft and forget free agency.  This definitely means no Mcfadden and no Ryan in my opinion.

I hope you're right
This is just the kind of news I wanted to hear.

now I want to hear.

'''with the first pick of the 2008 NFL Draft the miami dolphins select Jake Long''''

Cannot predict what the front office is thinking
I do think that the fish will definitely be taking one of the Longs now.  Which one is the question.  Chris is similiar to Jason Taylor, so it would make sense to go with Jake Long, but we really need help stopping the run.  Chris Long can do that.  If you look at the team last year, we got worst as the season went on with the offensive line.  Drafting Jake Long, moving Vernon back to RT and with the center we drafted last year I am happy with that foundation.

This way we can take either of the QB's Brohm, Flacco, Heine in the 2nd round and concentrate on defensive tackle, linebackers, corner backs and safeties the rest of the way.

I think Faneca will be gone to the Jets, from what I hear.  So we will have to build this line through the draft.

But Chris long will provide that run stopping ability that we simply do not have.  Also DT is a need.  Let's see what these guys do after midnight.

I just don't see
chris long as a guranteed run stopper playing a position he's never done before.

Plus let's say he max's out his talent and he becomes the next JT.... well what did JT get the dolphins... he was good, he won a lot of games but they were never a playoff team.... a great OL makes you a playoff team and not only a playoff team, one that gets you far.

Plus, i think they DL has some young ?talent? (players anyway) roth, moses, solali (sp??), and wright. I'd like to assume they will develop, where as the OL needs serious help.

I wasn't big on Adams
but with the lack of other options, I was hoping we would get him.

Fins trading for Ferguson?
Sources inform Calvin "Lucky" Watkins that the Cowboys and Dolphins are discussing a trade that would send NT Jason Ferguson, a Bill Parcells favorite for years, to Miami. Not clear yet what the Cowboys might get in return.

Ferguson, who suffered a season-ending injury in the opener, is expendable because of the emergence of Jay Ratliff. Tank Johnson, who has stayed out of trouble since signing with Dallas, gives the Cowboys quality depth at nose tackle.

More to come as this story develops.

That sucks, maybe there is Jake Long hope afterall
"It all starts with the Dolphins," an executive with another team said Sunday, "and not a single person here has any idea what they're going to do."

Whew! . . . or Darn!
I can't tell you how relieved I am to read that news.  Thank God.  Now, of course, we've got to go get somebody else.

With Sopoaga re-signed and now Flo, I'm really starting to wonder where we're going to get bodies to fill all the holes we have.  We can go J. Long in the draft, but then who do we get to play the D-line?  We could go Sedrick Ellis at #1, but then who do we get to play the O-line?

as I keep saying
d - line might be ok...

JT is the old stud, but then there are a bunch of young guys who need some PT...

moses, roth, wright, and soladi... where the team is weekest is QB/OL & LB.... and i'm pretty sure they aren't going to solve the QB issue without fixing the OL.... so go OL and see if some mid round LB's work out.

This confirms that we'll pick up a LT
At pick 1 or at pik 32.

Or we sign Max Starks
