Dolphins might have interest in Michael Turner?

That's right.  I don't really get it, but ESPN's John Clayton was just on "The Hot List" on ESPNews and said that the Dolphins could be one of the teams looking into Chargers' RB Michael Turner.  Then, speaking about the Marion Barber rumors, Clayton said that a lot of that would depend on Ronnie Brown's health and what happens with Michael Turner.

As far as Ronnie's health goes, it's being reported he's ahead of schedule, but we all remember what happened when Daunte Culpepper was rehabbing.  So I'll be cautious when talking about Ronnie's rehab.  But I just don't see why the Dolphins would look to spend some cash on Michael Turner.  It doesn't make sense.  This team already has 3 backs, one of which being Ricky Williams.  Sure, we don't know what we might get out of Ricky.  But the Dolphins could easily draft a running back in the later rounds as insurance.  After all, late round running backs and even undrafted backs seem to be wise investments these days (see Ryan Grant, Derrick Ward, and Ahmad Bradshaw, among others).

If you ask me, I think this is one time where John Clayton is way off here.

Thoughts?

I don't get it...
Why would Miami do that, or even the Derek Anderson thing?  He will be the top running back in Free Agency, so why would we go after him?

Its a ploy
Baiting Dallas and every other team out there. Parcells is not showing his cards. I hear the fins are interested in alot of players and I dont believe half of them. Keep them guessing bill !!!

John Clayton finally off
I think that John Clayton was on some sht this time around.  I usually put John Clayton up there with Adam Shefter, but this one has no rationale behind it whatsoever...sorry JC.

From a blogger standpoint
coming off of a 1-15 season and having a new coach and GM, you know your name is going to get mentioned for everybody.

Makes good for constant updates.:)

L. Booker will be the stud this year.  Remember Phatty said it first.

actually
I strongly agree with this....

BP isn't afraid of small backs.... morris, megget,
(crap what's his name) that went with him from NE to the jets....

after what booker did the last few weeks of the season, I can see him slipping nicely into that BP 3rd down back roll...

Consider this the fine...
art of disinformation.

The dolphins, if you look at the rumors we are hearing, are interested in just about everyone short of Jim Brown.

This, to me at least, is all part of Parcell's and his staff, to keep teams guessing. He'd like others to think miami is interested in a variety of positions.

If you analyze any of these rumors with even a bit of common sense, then they instantly become implausible.

Agreed
John Clayton is right with his reporting, somebody just gave him false info. Parcells is playing the game.

Parcells is a playa
hehe we've heard he is interested from Losman to Rodgers. Rumour has it, he is interested in my my grandmom. I'll keep you updated as details become available.
"It all starts with the Dolphins," an executive with another team said Sunday, "and not a single person here has any idea what they're going to do."

actually
the losman rumor was flying around here too, but now miami is out.... but losman will be traded, so it doesn't surprise me that miami inquired.

Gotcha...
and I saw your comment about it being a ploy.

It is and these rumors aren't even remotely plausible. Although it is fun to talk about it and see people get worried that parcells is suddenly going to turn into an amateur and give up 3 picks for Derek Anderson.

Agreed
Must be a diffacult time for reporters like John Clayton knowing most of these reports about teams being infatuated with players is a farce but hey, Thats their job. The Fins staff is atleast looking into all available players and obviously doing a good job. But, having said that.. Having interest in players available is one thing and seeing alot of these storys are a totally different thing. Reporters just do what they always do. Hype.

Its bills little trick
I like wat bill is doen maken all the teams guess about are next move.Cuz there can be no kinda way that we would go afta this guy we have enough backs on are team,Turner isnt also gonna be cheap and anywayz why would you be consintraten on a back when you dont even have a offensive line lets be serios. This guy is to old school he thinks football is all about the o and d-line and thats wat i like about him.Everythean works there way around that and gets better because of that n thats the way to think as a football coach........

SMART MOVE!!!
Usually agree with your opinions.  However, in this case you couldn't be more wrong.  I think this is about the best thing we could do!  Think about it Ronnie Brown is awesome but has an injury history.  Ricky is a stop gap.  We REALLY don't have one RB we can count on.  Also, Michael Turner is one of maybe 5 players that are actually worth any money in free agency.  We need to sign as many as possible.  If we signed Turner we have flexablity to trade one of the other backs to add more talent! (think olindo mare)  Gibril Wilson, Wilfork, Turner, an offensive lineman, and we have a pretty damn good start!!!

by afishfan on Feb 28, 2008 5:58 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

yes!!!!!!!
while we sign michael turner, sign derek anderson, then lets trade all our picks for the next 5 years for peyton manning....cmon give me a break. I have learned to take things that clayton say like a grain  of salt (or how ever that expression goes)...

by finsxfactor on Feb 28, 2008 6:27 PM EST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

clayton
This has nothing to do with Clayton.  The fact is RB is one of VERY few positions we can upgrade intelligently without the draft, and because A> we need two good backs and B> we don't have even one we can count on.  This move makes sense.  We have money and we need players period.  Why waste a pick in the draft if we can get a proven player?  Please tell me how many starters we can sign without destroying our cap?  The only free agents that are really worth paying are guys that are still young and will be here a couple years.  Gibril Wilson, Wilfork, Turner can all start for us. There arent many more guys.  Briggs, maybe Pace, Asante Samual.  All going to get too much money.  How many starters are left?  Flozell Adams just signed.  Maybe Maurice Williams would be an option.  But Turner makes a TON of sense.
