Cowboys tag Ken Hamlin

Adam Schefter is reporting that the Cowboys have indeed franchised safety Ken Hamlin.  From a Cowboys standpoint, it makes a lot of sense.  Now they get extra time to try and work out a long-term deal with their pro-bowl safety and, in the meantime, only have to pay him just over $4 million in 2008 if a long-term deal isn't struck before the season.

For the Dolphins, though, this eliminates one potential player who could have been available to boost Miami's secondary.  Of course, other options at safety do exist.  The Giants are yet to re-sign Gibril Wilson and Madieu Williams is expected to leave Cincinnati this offseason.  Really, though, with Hamlin gone, the only safety I'd want the Dolphins to really target now is Wilson, who really came into his own in 2007 as part of that Super Bowl Champion team.

Another low priced option, though, might be Eugene Wilson.  The only problem there is that injuries have really gotten to him the past couple of years, limiting his time on the field and his effectiveness when he is able to play.

Thoughts?

That's Unfortunate
Hamlin would have been a great addition.  I hope we can now set our sights on Gibril Wilson and Asante Samuel.  Despite wanting Trufant and Hamlin more, I think signing Samuel and Wilson aren't out of the question.  We have over $40 million to spend, so spend it wisely.  The front office seems to know how to work with the salary cap so I don't question their ability to bring in these two guys.  And now there are rumors that we could pull something off with Atlanta with draft picks.  Things could change for the Dolphins quick.  Unfortunately the key word is COULD.  Let's hope it DOES.

Sucks!!
Now, the only one I would like is Gibril Wilson.  Maybe we get both Wilson and Madieu Williams.  I would have loved Ken Hamlin!!

Eugene Wilson
I wouldn't mind taken a look at Wilson. He was a guy I really liked when he first got in the league. If we can sign him cheap!

Dont spend to much
Know this is somethean that realy hurt ous right there. But at this point i dont like the idea of bringen samuels cause 1 hes not a parcel type of guy (to small).I believe he is a lil ova rated cuz of bein in new england.I say we give him a reasonible price if he takes good if not o well. I say we do that with all the guys comen out there in free agency im not with given a guy 10mil a year like hes just gnna magicly turn the team around, maybe payton or Lt but thats it.If we give a guy a reasonable contract but hes getten more sme where else than you can tell if he realy wants to be a dolphin or not.I dnt want a football player here jst for the money cuz they know we got a lot of that and realy no chace of maken the playoffs......................

options
Sounds like this will be a big draft for us...the draft has a weak safety class.  We can always wait and see who gets released this summer...i believe that will be option B after the draft.
Hope the Tuna isn't lost at sea!!!

agreed
I don't think the dolphins are that bad a safety.

They aren't great by any means, but if they resign bell, (i've lost tack of hill), allen played pretty good run support and layed some wood too so he might not be a total bust, and schulters is a decent back up/rotation guy.

So i'd much rather they spend some money on O/L and get a linebacker that can stop the run. (oh wait they cut one of those) and for the love of god sign a receiver who can catch the ball.

BP didn't turn TO around...
Jones forced TO on Parcells.  and TO was still doing his own thing regarding practices, camp, meetings etc (skipping or being late).

Dont give to much
I wouldnt trade a 1st rounder for d-hall maybe a second but you need to undastand  that we need the most draft picks we can get to turn this team around and make it better than what it is right now.I say we get a bunch of 2nd rounders look at samson steele last year as our center look how good he turned out and how cheap we got him for and he is no kinda of destraction.I believe as solid as this draft is gonna be are main goal right now should be to get as many late 1st rounders and 2nd ronders as we can right now to make this team younger. We got a lot of cap room right now lets not go try to spend are money on dumb stuff.Lets try to trade jt for a 2nd rounder and then well be real good cap wise And have alot of draft picks.Lets try to trade down as much as we can right now so we can get even more draft choices. We need YOUTH on are side, less injures we have the better the chances we got to win.O and remember that jt also has a foot injury, thats 1 thing we dnt need............

Yeah
Asante has impressed me for years, he always had big games vs. our qb's..
granted our qb's suck since Dan the Man.  I think Asante would be a great addition to our secondary a upgrade over Daniels or Lehan...
Do you guys or gals think Bill might look at Ty Law, he could probably come in and help the younger guys and hopefully someone we draft
What happend to the Killer BEEs

You've Mentioned
Ken Hamlin, Madieu Williams, and Giril Wilson.  And I don't know much about these, but what about Houston's Will Demps, and Atlanta's Chris Crocker?

They're at least starters, right?  Not backups like Eugene Wilson.  Too bad about the tag on Ken.  It was a prayer and a wing if he landed with the Dolphins.

eh
I'm not a fan of Crocker.  He's rather slow and struggles in coverage.

Demps, too, has seen his career take a downward spiral.  I'll pass on him.

Demps' teammate, C.C. Brown, though, intrigues me.  He's only 25 and is a monster in run support.  Again, though, his coverage skills are lacking a bit.

In my view, if we can't get a good coverage safety, we should just stick with Jason Allen at FS.  Allen is good in run support but still gets lost in coverage.  So the only real upgrade for Miami at the FS spot would be to get a safety who can cover and doesn't look lost when dropping back in pass coverage like Allen seems to do.
