Zach Thomas update: Pats offer contract

Well, one of our fears may come to fruition as Dolphin fans.  Adam Schefter is reporting that the Patriots have offered Zach Thomas a contract.  Negotiations between his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and the Pats will continue.

Thomas visited with New England today and is still scheduled to meet with the Saints tomorrow.  Schefter does point out that the Jets, Bills, Broncos, Texans, and Cowboys all are interested in bringing Thomas in for a visit.

What does this mean to the Dolphins?  Nothing, except that cutting Zach might prove to come back and bite the Dolphins in the ass.  You have to wonder if Thomas still might have more left in his tank than we all thought.  After all, there's as many as 7 or 8 teams rumored to be interested in him.  That does say something.

But, again, the Dolphins deciding to cut Thomas is probably the best thing for this franchise at this point in time.  But it's going to be painful to watch Thomas play in another uniform, especially if he's still as productive as he has been in Miami.

The only good thing...
if Zach does indeed follow sooo many former Dolphins to NE is that there will be such a tremendous turnover of personnel and a yet a another new offensive system (and lack of footage) that his value to the Pats is on the field only...not in the Dolphins play book.  Still no one I'd ever want to face as an opponent, especially in the division.

I, for one, am not one bit surprised NE tendered an offer, but am completely disgusted by the possibility.

Bring me the bucket.

They win round 1.
Hey, he earned a million a game this year.    He played six games and made 6 million? Somewhere around there. He's certainly physically able, but he still is one hit from being knocked out for the year.

Round 2:   We get Asante Samuel?

We win that exchange...

Really hoping the saints
raise the ante... don't wanna see zach in a pats uni.

adding another mid-30's LB doesn't really amke sense for NE, so this news surprises me a bit.

i truly hope it does not happen.

I stand by what I said earlier
I meant what I said and said what I meant. If he will always be a Dolphin, man up and show us now.

Chance at a ring
The only positive I can take from this is that at least he will have a legit chance for a ring.  But it will be weird to see him wearing a Pat's uniform next year.  Hopefully he will not go and decide for Dallas or the Saints.

I still stand by the move, because if he has one big hit, he won't play next year.  Had he stayed with the fish with our luck, something like that would have happened.

Maybe...
this is all a plot by Parcells and Zach. ZT signs a huge contract with NE and either plays badly all year or hurt. Meanwhile, our secret agent man sends back reports about what Belichick is game planning. Hey, if cheating is good enough for Billy Boy then it's good enough for us!

Ugh...
Come on!  Any team but New England, please!  I hate to say it, but Zach will be all but dead to me if he joins New England.  Lump him in with Seau, Welker, Evans, Morris, etc and even that punk Izzo.  I honestly don't think I could root for him in a New England uniform.

Here's hoping New Orleans and Dallas throw out offers he can't refuse.

Marty Booker Too
PFT is now reporting (via link) that the Patriots are also going to bring in Marty Booker for a looksie. if we get rid of Ricky, I guarantee he will go to NE and they'll go undefeated next

jesus christ! I am going to have to become a patriots fan. they have so many former dolphins. Meanwhile we are turning into the freakin' Cowboys.

I'm with Jayfiss on this one...
I don't really get the pats wanting another older linebacker since they already have a bunch of old guys. Then again, that's their choice and other teams will obviously pick on their LBing cores poor coverage skills.

And if we are smart here, plus we get the right personnel, then the dolphins too can take advantage of NE's dinosaur-like LB group in the passing game.

I'm not getting into the ZT is a traitor or whatever, discussion. The dolphins cut him, that was the fins choice. Don't tell a guy who is unemployed, what jobs he can and can't take - especially when he gave this franchise his all for 10+ years on many, many losing teams.

In Addition....
On a sidenote, I actually crashed the postgame press conference of Super Bowl and interviewed the Patriots and Giants players. It's just like one of those beer commercials on tv. Check out Tom Brady's face when I ask him about the Manning brothers. Hilarious. www.davesdetours.com

We made a good move
Wateva way you wanna look at it we needed zach thomas to go he was to much money and was always hurt. But let me tell you this dont be shocked if zach does go to new england and stays healty and has a good year. The reason for that is that the pats have somethean we dont have alot of depth at  the linebacker spot.So what that means he can stay healty and not be forcesed to take poundening like he did in miami.Thats what we need to learn here in miami just cuz you have a allstar in your team doesent mean you gotta push him and push him untill they get injured. We gotta learn how to rotate players and keep them fresh threw out the hole game.Like the giants d-line did with the pats thats why they kept getten beat threw out the course of the game......

Zach and the Saints met...
No immediate contract offer (that I can find out there).  Seemed like he was carrying one out the door exiting the Patriot's offices.
