OFFICIAL: Dolphins release Zach Thomas
So it's now official, as you can see by the article on the Dolphins' official website. Zach Thomas is no longer a Miami Dolphin.
Here's what Zach had to say in a statement:
And he'll always be a Miami Dolphin in the hearts and minds of every single Dolphins fan.
Now onto the statement released by Jeff Ireland:
Blah, blah, blah. Why couldn't Ireland just come out and say that football is a business. Oh well.
Anyways, the post below this one has more on the release of Zach. Also, I'll be posting another article later on tonight/tomorrow with final thoughts on the release of Zach and what it might mean for the Dolphins as we move forward.
Regardless of all that, though, this is a tough day for every Miami Dolphins fan.

Respect and Good Luck to Zach...
The dolphins let Zach go, not the other way around. He didn't leave us for more money or greener pastures.
As far as I'm concerned, I have no problem if he goes to NE or any other AFC East team. How can anyone blame him for providing for his family by taking the best deal he can get? How can anyone blame him for wanting to win?
Zach would have gladly played out his days here, even on a 1 win team. Now the team said he's not part of their plans so let's thank Zach for what he's given us and wish him luck no matter where he goes.

It's a sad, sad day,
As stated above, there has never been a better MLB for the Dolphins than Zach. For years, he was ABSOLUTELY my favorite player to watch.
Zach, YOU ARE A ROLL MODEL, A HERO, A WARRIOR, A CLASS ACT, AND I SALUTE YOU! (Man, I'm tearing up here). I wish there was a way he could come back in some capacity & retire as a Dolphin.
I'll NEVER forget Jimmy Johnson, on draft day: Mel (The Dick Weed) Kiper had just absolutely RIPPED Miami for drafting this short, slow, undersized player..... Then Jimmy speaks in an interview and says, "I don't draft size. I don't draft speed. I took a chance on a short fella by the name of Emitt Smith, and he worked out alright. I draft FOOTBALL PLAYERS, and I'm telling you this kid is A FOOTBALL PLAYER!"
Cudos to JJ for bringing us a warrior that thrilled us for 12 years. Zach, I always wanted an autographed jersey, but I guess I'll just frame the beer stained one I've worn for 12 years, watching you flash from sideline to sideline & LAYING THE WOOD to Pro Bowlers.
You will indeed be missed, and I'll see you in Canton!
Peace & best wishes!

I stand alone
Now with the props been given. Lets get down to the bottom line.
I hate to see Zach go and I do wish him the best, but lets be real about this.
I've been reading everything from let him go where he wants to "to provide for his family". The man is a mulit-millionaire, He and his family and his family's family, and his family's family's familys isn't gonna be hurting, so lets not throw money into this.
I also read things like "treating this like a funeral" and WTF and people saying "testing their Fin Faith/allegiance.
Are you people serious?
Yes the Dolphins cut him. But it was told before that Ireland, Parcells had talked to Zach (granted not at first), but they had conversations. You don't think this was talked out? You don't think there was a reason he wasn't cut with the other Dolphins the other day?
From Armando Salguero:
The Dolphins have just released this statement from a very content Zach Thomas.
Why is he content? Let's see, he's escaping a team that was 1-15 last year and in rebuilding mode. He's going to play for a good team next year.
Why not be happy?
Content you say? Not a suprised or heart-broken Zach Thomas? Wow I'm shocked. Yes why not be happy?
Further down it reads:
Here is my concern: I am told by a source close to Thomas that he is healthy and can and would like to play in 2008. But he wants to play for a Super Bowl caliber team.
So lets get this straight. Dolphins go almost winless and are clearly rebuilding. Zach has problems with concussions and at the end of the year the new regime sits down with Zach and just decides to cut him w/o consulting with him about his thoughts, what he wanted to do, accomplish in his pro career and where the team was headed? Not wait to try to trade him nothing, just let him go
I find that very hard to believe. Hell Jason Taylor was doubting if he wanted to be a Fin next year or not. So if you all think the Fins didn't do a honorable thing, by just letting Zach go (apart from the others) instead of holding on to him looking for a trade and letting the 35 year old MLB go find a SB ring you all are delusional.
I'm sure it tugged at Zach too to be a Fin and never go to a SB or go for the ring. Miami helped his decision.
No we don't need to treat this like a funeral, the man isn't dying.
No this shouldn't test your Fin allegiance. Your either a FinFan or your not. I was a Miami Dolphin Fan way before Zach Thomas, and I will be one after Zach.
This was best for both parties. He was the heart and soul of our defense and did give his all, but it's simply time to move on for him and the Fins.
Well done Zach. I salute you. I enjoyed watching you play, and I hope you will always be a Dolphin. I suggest everyone read Armando Salguero's column http://dolphinsindepth.blogspot.com/ It explains by what I meant earlier.
Who I'm more concerned about is Jason Taylor. What does this mean for him? He is not much younger than Zach. How will he feel about this? Is there something already in place that (via a trade) that JT is leaving as well?
I am a Miami Dolphin fan. If they win 1 game or if they win every game. If they Hire Don Shula or if they hire Cam Cameron. If they let (which they did) even Dan Marino go or some scrub on the pratice squad. I am a Miami Dolphin Fan and want whats best for the Miami Dolphins. As much as it hurts most peeps on here, this is best.
