Around SBN: Bill Stewart Dead From Apparent Heart Attack

**OFFICIAL: Cam Cameron fired**

**UPDATE #2**: In Ireland's press conference, he said that a big reason for the firing of Cam Cam was that he and Parcells just didn't know him very well and they would rather have someone who shared their same philosophies. So the rumors about the high interest Parcells has in Tony Sparano and Todd Haley are probably quite accurate. Also, ProFootballTalk is reporting that the Dolphins will be having former Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan in for an interview for the head coaching job. [end update #2]

**UPDATE**: It's official, as the team has announced the move on their website. New GM Jeff Ireland released the following statement:

"This is a difficult decision, and I want to thank Cam and the rest of his staff for their work this past season. By making this decision now, it gives all of the coaches the greatest chance to pursue other opportunities."

Also, the Herald reports that there will be an 11 am press conference with both Bill Parcells and Jeff Ireland. [end update]

It is being reported that the Dolphins have finally fired Cam Cameron.  ESPN's Chris Mortensen first reported it.  And since, both the Miami Herald and the Sun-Sentinel have posted their own stories.

It's also being reported that all but 2 of Cam's coaches have been fired as well.  The two that have been retained are assistant special teams coach Steve Hoffman and linebackers coach George Edwards. Why have these two been retained? Probably because both have experience working with Jeff Ireland in Dallas.

Hudson Huock?
Does that mean the great OL coach is gone too? I think he is a must keep especially with the job he did in bringing Satele along.

WOW!
Cleaning house.

I believe the OL Coach (Hudson Houck) was from SD and had close ties to Cam Cameron.

go Phins in 2008...

Capers and Houck
Im glad Capers is now gone but im not too happy about Houck being let go, he has had crap to work with every year and the line has always performed better then expected as the year went on, i would have like to see what he could have done if he was given some talent to work with.

Houck
Read the article on YAHOO & it mentions a couple may be re-hired.....I wouldn't mind seeing Houck back....but I am very excited about the quick house cleaning....Parcells has a take no prisoners approach which is just what we needed!! Belichick start looking over your shoulder!!

by MassFinFan65 on Jan 3, 2008 11:04 AM EST reply actions

You cant rely on coaching entirely
All we heard about Houck is that he can coach em up, but that doesnt work when you have had guys with minimal talent.
Thats why they didnt sign any OLmen prior to the 06 year, they though they could "Coach em up" but the reality is that rarely works.

Satele solidified the Line and Carey played decent at LT
We need a really talented LT so that Carey can move back to RT.
That would solidify the line.

everyone's been saying
that Houck will probably retire, and that Cam had to talk him into coming back for this past season.

At least if we get Sparano, he's a solid OL guy

oh I agree
yup, if you go back to the diaries, i was complaining about this around week 8.

Since Cam had no plan to get Beck work in practice, had no plan to get Beck into game situations, and then had no plan on how to get him in positive playing situations to help build his confidnence he doomed the 2008 season to another caretaker QB.

So there is no way any coach can go into next season trying to sell that the 2008 team will be good with Beck at QB... So the only choice is to start impending lost season with another caretaker QB and hope the coach will be secure enough to start working Beck into the games by midseason with an eye on starting 2009 with Beck as QB.

Had Wayne not been such a nice guy, Cam should have been fired week 8 when Beck wasn't ready to play.

8)Good Trades (if we make any).
9)Solid FA acquisitions at fair prices.
10)A Patriot loss in the post season.
11)Parcells staying the full 4 years to make sure the foundation is in place.

As for Cameron being fired...

Today..today..today... I consider myself..myself. The luckiest man, on the face of the earth.

As President and CEO of the Can Cam Cameron Fan Club as you can imgaine, am well pleased with the result. I would 1st like to that my right hand woman, Nat, we couldn't had done it without you. Left, W NY, I'm sure there are others I am leaving out, but my appreciation goes out to you as well. It was a long hard season, luckily it will not go in vain. Sadly with out mission being accomplished and no need for the club anymore, I proudly resign from my position and disband the club. Thank you. Thank you everyone. hehe

Ok, enough BS. Of course I think this is a great move by Parcells, totally clean house and start over. I also think it was a brilliant move to bring Ireland in before he canned Cameron. I do wish Cam the best luck in the future, a very good OC, but a very bad HC. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do as in searching for our next head coach. Good work Bill, keep it up. Go Dolphins.

Taylor on Cam's firing:
"We've had a difficult year, and it's one of those times when it's a little unsettling," he said. "As a player on the team, you can only control what you can, and for other things, you have to let others do it."

Doesn't sound like he's shedding any tears.

what ultimately did CaM/Mule in
something i've heard a couple times from Ireland/Parcells that they kinda throw in as an afterthought but I think is the main reason they are gone.

BIG people.
3 of the 4 first day picks were UNDERSIZED guys.

Ginn, Beck, Booker. All undersized for their positions. Parcells & Ireland pet peave is undersized guys. I dont buy the think about philisophical diffrences about high character passionate guys cuz Cam spit the same cliches last year too.

What the f*ck
Hudson and Mel Phillips too. I hope if Houck doesn't retire he comes back, as well as Mel too.

Undersized?
Yeah, like Jason Taylor, Zach Thomas, Steve Smith, Marvi Harrison & Emmitt Smith..... I get it, Size counts, but sometimes is deceiving.

Man, I love the Dolphins. I truly hope this IS the beginning of something special, but I have great reservations.

Jimmy Johnson went 1-15 his first year. Parcells was 3-12-1 his first year.

We had 17 players end up on I.R. with 7 rookies on the roster, a completely new O Line....... a tough gig for any coach.

Pray for da Pheash, looks like we'll be the new season of the Sopranos next year. I hope this works.

the IR thing is such a crux
really, other then R Brown, Y Bell, & Z Taylor was there anyone important on IR? All teams have injuries, and well coached teams overcome them. Heck the patriots won a superbowl with a make shift offensive line and a WR playing CB for half the season. plus both houston & buffalo, two teams with marginally better talent then the phins had more players on IR and won 8 & 7 games and were 3-0 agains the phins.

Cam didn't condition his team, making them more likely to get hurt. then he relied on an injured QB whose own teammates knew it was just a matter of time. Then he depended on role players to assume larger roles, K Traylor...

The reality of this 1-15 team is that it's because almost every personel move Cam made was a disaster.

Fields for Jones
martin/peele for McMichael
Green for culpepper
porter for Carter
Ginn over okoye or willis

and on an on.

Cam created this mess and he deserved to go.

by W NY Fins Fan on Jan 3, 2008 8:39 PM EST up reply actions

I'm not so sure...
that Cam was fired just because he lost all those games.  I think it was more that his philosphies and coaching stratgies and personality did not mesh with Parcells.  Parcells wants one of "his" guys to lead this team.  Also, I don't think the way Cameron handled situations with his players (especially the veterans)helped him keep his job.

by JDPhinFan on Jan 4, 2008 9:36 AM EST up reply actions

agreed
you can add that to the list of warts on Cam
